Several reasons
A) If we indeed allow the FDA to regulate it, then they can disallow the use the them entirely until they deem fit for its use in the United States, which leads too...
B) The e-cig suppliers could end up having to pay several millions of dollars in testing to get them...
I was looking for the 901's with the little washer on top of the bridge, and for the life of me I cannot remember the model number (who can remember with 100 different styles :( ). I love these ones because they don't seam to leak so much as the others.

This is something that will be ultimately consumer driven, as most things are actually.
If a supplier wants to get into higher amounts of safety functions and features, its not really needed in all cases to have a ton of capital for R&D.
But suppose it does take a ton of capital for R&D...
All I use is a little copper anti-seize on the threads, and contact cleaning on the threads and posts. Thankfully work has all those supplies that I need :)
