Unfortunately my oldest son convinced me to sell him my last wood mod so when the day comes that I have a few extra $, I'll probably be looking for something with a nice wood grain...
I am putting the finishing touches on a project made out of red oak this weekend. Just a shadow-box-ish kind of thing with simple rabbet joints, but it looks good for what it holds. (A section of 5/8" steel wire rope and a picture of my father and sister getting ready to snap themselves to said rope rigged as a zip-line over downtown Indianapolis.) Actually wanted a maple when I went to the mill, but when I saw those pieces of red oak, I changed my mind.
