Should Electronic Cigarettes be Regulated as a Medicine? Like the Nicotrol Inhaler or the Nicotine Patches and Gums?

You'd most likely have to get a prescription; how much nicotine you could have and for how long would be decided by someone who very probably never smoked; you could only buy the devices certain companies sold; it's possible it could become a scheduled medication, making DIY illegal.

I'm sure others will chime in.

In my opinion they should be neither regulated as a medicine/smoking cessation product nor regulated as a tobacco product. They are in a total class of their own and as far as I am concerned there is no need for any governmental regulation.

Ditto x 10! At least no regulation outside of the things that vendors do already like labeling and no underage selling.

Should Electronic Cigarettes be Regulated as a Medicine? NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
What would happen? Would things be any better if ecigs were regulated as a medicine/smoking secession product rather than being regulated as a tobacco product?
Then pharmaceutical corporations would control things and you would see a rise in cost and need a prescription to get nic. And who knows what else.

well for one...

prices would go through the roof. it would be probably 50 years before the prices came back down to the equivalent of what they are in today's economy... and that would be generic brands. surely they'll be priced out of the hands of most anyone without prescription coverage.

and for another...

when was the last time you got something from BP companies or pharmacies that didn't contain copious, unnecessary amounts of binders, fillers and carriers?

and another...

imagine nic fitting while waiting for your appt. or in line at the clinic to get your prescription filled... then being treated like an addict and having your dosage limited because "you're abusing a dangerous and/or addictive drug"

and another...

the device...
ever try to justify to your doctor why you need another nebulizer for your 6 yr old kid to do his breathing treatments... because he knocked it off the counter and snapped the nipple that holds the air tube in place... you get reminded how expensive a mediocre air pump is and told "i'll see what i can do for you" :glare:
just spend the friggin' $2 it costs to injection mold a new top half of the body and i'll screw it in place... i'm not ......ed, ya know... now gimme' the damn machine so my son can breath again and get off my back, you ignorant, pretentious, high brow .........

Geez, I hadn't thought of it in that way.

And you might have to see a specialist to get the prescription.

and with as many of us addicts as there are, that specialist might be the same clinic as those that dispense meds to alleviate addiction to "street medication".

worst case scenario, but not entirely out of the question.
