An eliquid or an ejuice (alternately just juice or vape juice) is the name for the vaporized agent used for vaping in either ecigarettes, mech or regulated mods. The mod or ecigarette is the actual vaporizer, and the eliquid, ejuice or vape juice is the medium that is vaporized.

eliquid is made from common components with long track records of use in the food and medical industry, and an eliquid may or may not contain nicotine. The primary components of most eliquid consists of a vaporizing agent, flavorings, and either nicotine or no nicotine. These are mixed in various ways, and at present there is no standardization on the manufacture of them, so there is wide variability in the market in the quality of products from a standardization and trace ability perspective. Many manufacturers utilize facilities that are either ISO certified, or are built to food grade standards at a minimum. This is the main reason that you have wide variance in the cost of eliquid. It's not really the constituents that make up the ejuice, but it's the process by which it's made that makes the difference. The premium eliquids from the best manufacturers have retained samples of all lots, trace ability of component parts, and maintain facilities to very high standards of sterility. Many lower cost eliquid brands come to market much cheaper because they do not follow these same rigid standards of manufacturing.

So why does trace ability matter for eliquids? Like any product, you may need at some point to do a recall. Trace ability allows you to at least attempt a recall (although getting back all bottles is difficult once they pass from the retailer to the consumer) if there are serious issues with any of the constituent parts. So if there is a large batch of PG used by a major manufacturer that is found to have some defect, that manufacturer has the ability to track exactly which bottles were made from that PG and initiate recalls of all of those bottles. This is common in modern manufacturing, and in many industries, trace ability is a core requirement for all products.

The main vaporizing ingredient of any ejuice is either vegetable glycol (VG) or propylene glycol (PG). These are used around the country in hospitals (to maintain very dry air as humidity is less sterile than a dry environment for many pathogens) and for breathing treatments. These are used as a transport agent for multiple medications used in breathing treatments. The two agents have slightly different properties, with VG producing more vape (bigger clouds), and PG used to carry more flavor, but produce less vape. PG/VG ratio is important in eliquid formulation, and changes to that ratio can radically change the taste or cloud production of any ejuice.

The primary flavoring agents used are all from the food industry, and are packaged in either PG or VG (generally PG). These are used in many of the manufactured foods that we eat daily, and come in a vast variety. Many of the better suppliers of flavorings have MSDS sheets for their flavors and some even have chemical analysis to determine if there are any questionable reactions to low heat vaporization (burning at very high temperature is a very different thing, and no one vapes like this because it would taste terrible).

The final ingredient is nicotine, which is derived from plant sources (either tobacco or tomatoes in some cases if I remember correctly) or synthesized chemically. This is ingredient that builds dependence. Remember that nicotine is can build a strong physical dependence, and ensure that you monitor your usage with this in mind.
