Newbie from Canada looking for advice

Hi everyone. I'm new to this site and wanted some advice as to the best kind of kit to buy either in Canada or one that can be shipped to Canada. Right now I'm still smoking analogs but my doctor actually recommended me trying an e cigarette. I stumbled on this website, which is great by the way, and just finished reading all six parts of the Wonderful World of vaping Article. Anyway, just looking for advice as to a good starter kit and also info about whether anyone knows if we can get nicotine juice in Canada. From what I've read it doesn't appear possible but I defer to all the experts on this thread :2cool:Any and all guidance/comments are greatly appreciated.

Hey Dude,

Welcome to ECF! Sadly, Canada is one of the worst countries to vape in (my opinion). Our prices are high, our customs officials are greasy and our domestic e-juice doesn't cut the mustard (again, my opinion). I have got about 12 local people to buy ecigs and find that MadVapes.com has the cheapest eGo kits/shipping to Canada. You can get a starter kit for $45.00 and it is $2.00 shipping if you don't mind standard delivery times, you can also expedite it.

Their juice is not that great but it definitely stands up to a lot of the Canadian stuff.

PM me if you need any specific info, I'll be glad to help.

Vape Groovily, my friend.

Hey Seaweedshark,

Thanks so much. I can't PM you as it won't allow me to until I have 5 posts. This is my 3rd so I have two more to go. The main question I have for you is what type ecig should I start off with, I've read that the most popular on here seems to be the Joye510. Also, what would you suggest is the minimum I should get with a starter kit as far as batteries, etc. go? Thanks in advance.

Hey Torngirl,

As a fellow Canadian vaper (been at it about four months), I can assure you that vaping in Canada isn't nearly as bad as many people make it out to be. I've ordered a few dozen different starter kits for friends and family, as well as lots of accessories (extra bats, chargers, etc) and e-liquid- all of which came from the States.

I have only had one shipment stopped at the border, and it turns out it was because one of the bottles had started leaking, which then the package was deemed suspicious.

All of the other orders have come through fine. Generally speaking though, I usually use FedEx for shipping, not USPS.

If you have any questions, toss me a PM and I can help you get started, without getting burned.

I would not go with a 510, they have terrible battery life and can't handle the LR (low resistance) gear. An eGo would be a fine start as you will get 6+ hours out of it and won't have to worry about compatibility issues as they take almost anything on a 510 connection.

You can grab a starter kit with two batteries, a charger, and some cartomizers/atomizers/ or mega cartomizers for about $48.00 at Welcome to MadVapes LLC and opt for $2.00 shipping which is extremely cost-effective. I would suggest using cartomizers, and picking up a drip tip or two as well.

As far as juice goes, I would grab at least 3 or 4 flavours to start. I know a lot of people that only picked one to start, didn't like it, and thought that all flavours would be that bad. I firmly believe there is at least ONE killer juice out there for everyone, probably dozens more.

Yeah, I should have rephrased, but you did prove my point. Most people in Canada order their gear and juice from the US or other countries abroad. Our domestic prices are high, which I believe is due to customs issues with bulk orders from China, which is where the greasy customs remark hailed from.

This guy is right on the money. eGo is a great battery to start with. It's relatively inexpensive, durable as all hell, and great battery life. I'd suggest (if you can handle having to carry liquid with you), to start dripping right off the start. I started with cartos and ended up ...... off at myself for not dripping from the start.

Now I'm an avid dripper and honestly, nothing compares.

Madvapes is also where I got my first eGo.

EDIT: I started on an 808 though, no regrets.

Ah, yeah, sorry. That first post kind of went right over my head. I do agree domestic prices are silly. One local shop here is trying to sell a single 808 battery with 5 non-nic cartos and one charger for $89.99.

Thanks for the advice I have read here that the battery life on the 510 wasn't that great. I think I'll go with the eGo as you've suggested.

I'm still a bit confused about the 'mechanics' of it all even though I've read a ton on here. The cartomizers I get are pre-filled and I think I'll get some of those to start off with. I also want to try dripping as you've suggested but what do I need to do that? You mention a drip tip but I assume you also need 'atomizers' is that right...this is far more complicated that I first thought but fun!

Thanks again.

Thanks very much Koore,

I'm thinking of the eGo kit that includes the following:
Each 510 eGo carrying kit includes:

2 Black eGo 900mah batteries with blue LED.
2 Black Smok Tech Atomizers (2.5 ohms)
2 Black eGo Cone (Atomizer cover)
5 Prefilled 510 round cartridges(USA Mix, 24mg)
1 420mah eGo charger
1 Black zippered carrying case

What else do you think I need to get started? I still don't get the 'dripping' thing or what I need to do that. Once I get my 5 posts in maybe I'll DM you and you can give me your take!

Thanks again.

From one canuck to another, welcome! The situation in Canada isn't very good with regards to E-cigs, so I commend your doctor for recommending them! There are vendors in Canada, many of whom carry hardware, and there are a number that also carry juices with nicotine. Once you get to 5 posts you can join the rest of us hosers in the Canada forum and one of us can PM you with a list of vendors that carry nic juice. I'd also recommend happyvaper.com, a local vendor based in Richmond Hill. His juices do not contain nicotine but he has a wide selection of starter kits and other bits of hardware to choose from, and Jack is a great guy to deal with as well.

We can get you squared away with the right stuff, no problem. :)

Hey Mindfield,

Thanks! Everyone on this forum has been a ton of help and so nice! I'm glad to be here. Us Canadians are way too uptight about some things and I was surprised my Doctor recommended this as well but she has a lot of patients who have quit this way.

I'll definitely take you up on that offer to join the Canadian forum and request that list. I've hit my 5..yay!!!! Just waiting for my email.

Have a great day.

That's a pretty awesome doctor. My wife talked to hers about E-cigs, but her doctor had never heard of them and didn't seem to have an opinion on them one way or another. It's good to hear that Canadian doctors are not only becoming informed but are becoming informed enough they recommend E-cigs. Gives me a little bit more hope that we might be able to turn this situation with Health Canada around yet. :)

And yes, this is just about the best place you'll find for an awesome community of vapers from every corner of the world.

I'll definitely take you up on that offer to join the Canadian forum and request that list. I've hit my 5..yay!!!! Just waiting for my email.

Yep, just give the forum software a couple of hours or so to wake up and adjust your permissions and you'll be able to post in the Canada forum (and everywhere else).

Hi Torgirl:
I was exactly where you are now 3 1/2 months ago, so I know how confusing it all can be.

I bot the Ego T starter kit and e-liquid with nicotine from a Cdn. vendor, trying to support our cdn. community is important to me.

This is what I've used for over 3 months and have been very happy with it. Once you get something, anything you'll start to understand a little better how everything works and then you can branch out. Other posts talked about dripping, which is good, but, if you have any vision problems like I do it can be messy.

I chose not to continue with dripping and used tanks on the ego battery, this set up satisfied me. After 40 years of smoking analogs I can finally say I will never smoke another cigarette.

Hope this helps, Maxine

Hi Maxine,

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was confused with all the terminology etc. Haha. I thought is was so simple as I've seen ecigs before in malls but after reading on here all the 'ins and outs' I was a bit overwhelmed truth be told.

Great to hear that you bought the started kit and e-liquid with nictoine from a Canadian vendor, I may go that route myself as I think it's also really important to support our Canadian community:)

I like your suggestion, start small and branch out...great idea. Yes, the dripping is what has me a bit confused.

The tanks you refer to are those the cartomizers that everyone calls them, the prefilled ones? How long does each tank last you?

Wow, congratulations!!!! I've smoked for about 30 years...OMG, I didn't even realize it was that long until I typed it...anyway, I've quit about 3 or 4 times, once for a period of 2 years but never seemed to be able to just be done with it once and for all. I'm hoping this will be my ticket out of this nasty habit.

Lesley

Hi Lesley:

No, the tanks are not cartomizers. When you order the Ego T(Tank) system this is what comes with the kit. It's what will hold the e-liquid and it is what will plug into the atomizer. It is the mouthpiece you will drag from. When you order your kit it will say it is Ego T starter kit.

If you PM me I can give you a list of Cdn. vendors.
