Yep that explains it pretty well, I always ran higher Ohms on my gennie's with the provari cuz I liked the higher numbers on volts lol.

I havent found this to always be true, depends on where the short is, I've had pretty obvious shorts that still gave a reading, i figured the short just jumped coils (like went from coil one to three for example, causing a nasty hotspot in 1)

OK e-1 is a short.. thats why you are getting hotspots. Probably one of two things, coil wrap is uneven (tighter in some spots then in others) or not oxydized enough.
