    thanks for the info, but I was thinking I narrowed it down to those choices for hot spring mods (if they even have those) without fuses. In 6 months or so, there'll probably be a bunch of VV 40W MODs with protection.

    Isn't a metal case a bad idea? Are you saying the spring gives added safety? Because I was considering a magneto clone with magnets in place of the spring. I haven't quite digested Baditude's blog posts yet (many thanks), so I'm still battery shopping.
