    Yep, I go slightly above the oval slots and use all the air holes possible. And yes tight to the positive will increase heat some. Also, if you are using the negative post airholes, make sure they are not blocked by wick. You'll see it start to discolor there first as an indicator.

    Alex, I was seeing it a similar way. It seems to be a mod/rda issue with electrical isolation, meaning an insulator is having problems. Check all your insulators and try reading it again.
