Reminds me of the quote: "A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." If you want to write extensively (as you and I do), a word processor is necessary, but many people don't write more than to text their friends. My daughter's smart phone has a keyboard on the screen that you can...

I remember a wall of rain when I was a kid. My friend Martha and I were out playing on the sidewalk when it came toward us. We ran and stayed ahead of it for maybe 1/4 of a mile, then turned back and got soaking wet. We didn't mind too much; it was warm out.

Poor Lizzie! I'd rather be here. Till Wed., they say highs in the high 70s and low 80s. At some point, it'll get hotter, I know. But here, it's rare to get to 100º.

Lizzie, if it's in the 90s now, and that's not the heat wave, what temperatures do you expect starting Wednesday?

I got recipes for them, Awsum. I'll try a bunch and see if any recipes are keepers. Eleven cans! I can try a lot of different things.

Thanks, 0mg. I might try it. Have you made it? Again, some ingredients I don't have on hand, so it'll have to wait till I go shopping.

Last night, Bill brought home 11 cans of creamed corn. I guess the kids' mom tried one and didn't like it, though why she bought 12 cans when she didn't know if she'd like it, I can't imagine. Maybe she thought she was buying regular canned corn, then when she opened a can, she found out her...

I have something big & clumsy I want to sell, too. It'll have to be a local sale, and I'd need the buyer to transport it. It's a big plastic mounting block I bought so I could get on Penny. It's still at the place she lived, and I should get someone with a truck to go get it or sell it and have...

it's been hot & muggy here, too, interspersed with plenty of thunderstorms, which cool it off a little. I heard on the radio this evening that there's a flood watch for tomorrow morning. I guess that might mean a lot of rain, which might cool it off a bit.

I looked up yucca and also century plants, which I had confused with the photos of yucca. First, they aren't the same, though they're similar-looking. The century plant is what rope can be made of. Also tequila. Yucca seems to grow a lot of places, though they didn't mention it as far north in...

Ducky -- the perfect name! And here is a neighbor's peony, just for you -- though everyone else can enjoy it, too, of course.

Lizzie, your photo of the woodpile made me think of this kind of decor: Stacking Firewood

It's been a while since I posted a good-night photo, but here's a beauty. It's not mine but something I found in my Internet travels. I wish I had taken it! It's gorgeous. I'd be very proud of such a picture.

Yes, we've had unseasonably cool weather for about a week, but before that, it was in the mid to high 80s. I wish I could join you at the St. Lawrence Seaway! I've always wanted to see the castle there. See Boldt Castle welcomes you to visit one of the St. Lawrence River's premier attraction...

I'm here, Rave. Have a good trip, though you may not see this till it's over. As for apple cider vinegar, you could use it to make salad dressing.

It's good to see you back, Trit. About those floods in Texas ... Here's a video someone on my horse list shared. It's a horse campground with many horse trailers and trucks probably ruined. I hope this Facebook page is accessible to even those not on Facebook.

I also vote for a catbird, aka a mockingbird. They can mimic other birds' calls and other similar sounds. In fact, when we lived in California, there was one in the yard who would mimic my phone ringing (the kind with a trill, not a bell ringing). At first, I thought I was hearing my phone and...
