former pack a day smoker how much nic should i get in my juice?

Anywhere from 12mg to 18mg , It really depends on you. You need a high enough nic content to satisfy your craving for nicotine. If it is not high enough you will still crave a normal cigarette If is too high then you will be getting to much. Its very try and see I am afraid. I suggest you...

Any reason I'd want to go full size LavaT rather than mini? 18650 v 18350 lifespan?

The only difference is the Battery size. 18650 versus 18350 everything else is exactly the same . I think there are some Lavatube lookalikes coming out with a better display which are supplied with two battery tubes (long and short)

    first 1000 analogs avoided

Lavatube is a good choice (inexpensive and VV) . Add some sort of carto tank to it and you should have all the vapour you need. If you need to max the vapour it can get really expensive. I use a Odysseus rebuild-able atomizer/tank on a GG at 6Volts . Tons of vapour/flavour but at a price.

I think we all did. I don't remember the make of my first kit (I gave it away) 2 small automatic batteries with a red led at the end , Usb charger , wall charger , box of 5 pre-filled cartomisers that where impossible to refill. It came to 85 Euro. The cost of the cartos was horrendous...

    Issues with my Carto's

For New cartos you could try to fill the cartos and leave them to stand a for a couple of hours , then top up. I never immediately use a new carto. That way it is always soaked.

I wanted to like the Ody in Big mode, I really, really did...

I have settled on the following combo. Odysseus in short mode on a Stealth with an GGTS telescope so I can fit a 18500 battery. For me it is the best compromise on size , juice capacity and battery capacity.
