    They will both work but the red ones will drain themselves very low, lower than recommended. Where as the black protected ones will cut themselves off after dropping to a certain voltage(I believe 3.4 volts is its cutoff) so just keep an eye on your voltage with the red ones till you get an idea...

    That's a good one, but I would recommend this one it has self adjusting tabs for any size battery and doesn't need the spacers the wp2II requires for smaller batteries. I own both and I prefer the Nitcore for its ease of use and it has never charged a battery to over 4.23, where my wp2II charges...

    I use a wire mesh wick in my rebuildables, and find I prefer the wire to touch the wick, just not wrapped very tightly. You just have to mkae sure that your wick is oxidized very good so as to not create a short anywhere the wire comes into contact with the wick. IMO this produces the best...
