    No problems. If you're nervous about anything left over on the thread, a quick boil followed by an alcohol soak should do the trick. Its easier if you tie the ends in a knot before boiling to keep the string together. Three braided strands of that should work nicely.

    Make sure you read the label. A lot of gauze is a polyester blend. I only found one brand today by Qurad that specifically stated 100% cotton. Obviously if a single strand is not stretchy like polyester, it's cotton. You can hold the two side by side and obviously tell what it is.

    That perique will kill just about anything. The bottom coil may give better flavor as you say but that juice is also full of particulates that settle down and may have lead to it's demise. Tear it apart! Lets find out.
