No comprehensive source of info that I have found. Trial and error, a little imagination, common sense,and dumb luck all come into play. I let gravity do the work of passing extract through the filter so no significant pressure is ever developed. Paper lab filter paper works best for me...- johni

Filtered three pipe blend extractions, then started two cigars and a pipe blend tonight. Did 90% of it during commercials while watching the Nationwide race! I love letting gravity do the work.:2cool:- johni

I have contemplated trying filtration below 2.5 microns but have been getting good enough performance that I haven't gotten motivated yet. When I was considering the 2.5 micron filters, most said it wouldn't work, wouldn't flow through without a vacuum, and flavor would suffer. I guess we've...- johni

Bill, Wiki (a dubious source of info IMO) says particulates below 40 microns are not visible. This does make some sense though because after one filtering with a coffee filter there are generally no visible bits but we know from experience that they are there. Welcome usr/! Tobacco shops smell wonderful to me also. Your chessecloth filtration will leave you with a lot of particulates in my estimation. I normally strain extracts and filter right away but know of no reason why you couldn't filter later also. I use 15 cm round, qualitative lab filter...- johni
