    Cold maceration of tobacco

Mike, I use a separate pint glass for each filtration. I initially thought it would be cool to stack the filters but figured out that the difference in flow rate could be a problem (and a big mess!) plus you'd have to rig up some kind of tower. That's why I bought two sets of cheap funnels...

    Cold maceration of tobacco

Some genius actually made a you tube video doing just that!

    Cold maceration of tobacco

Yep. I actually flute the paper to keep it from just pressing against the funnel and slowing flow. Like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caXpfoVqqXo

    Cold maceration of tobacco

Didn't see this comment before I posted as I have you set to "Ignore". This matter of fact statement is patently wrong Mr. "Chemical Engineer". Not trying to start a fight but you aren't adding anything to the conversation.

    Cold maceration of tobacco

The three tobaccos I extracted this time: Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman, Missouri Meerschaum Great Dane, and Cornell and Diehl Billy Budd. Although quite fresh, all three are winners so far. I filter through circular (15 cm) lab filter paper pleated to a cone shape and dropped inside...

    Cold maceration of tobacco

Just got done filtering and bottling my three latest extractions. Room temp soaks in PG for 42 days. Filtered twice through lab filter paper, 6 micron then 2.5 micron and it took about two hours with gravity doing the work. I think this will be my new filtering routine.

    Natural Tobaccos - Part Deux

Juicy, I agree Louisville is an awesome juice! I've done several Burley blend extractions in an effort to make something like Louisville with the closest being Sutliff Burley Delight 212. That blend actually has some Virginia in it. If you know of any tobacco blends that smoke like Louisville...

    Natural Tobaccos - Part Deux

I am actually very content with KGD cotton. It does about everything I want a wick to do but the improved durability of the Rayon is appealing. Since starting with KGD, Ive used just a little over one pad so it will basically last me forever. Thanks for the offer and let us know what the...

    Natural Tobaccos - Part Deux

Tried the Cellucotton twice for a few days each time and developed a very dry sore throat and some taste bud issues. Don't know that the CC caused it for sure but it went away both times when I went back to KGD. I'll give CC another shot eventually but I'm leery. I agree with about all of...

    Natural Tobaccos - Part Deux

Welcome. Fifty percent off the already reasonably priced GeJ NETs was a great time to try them. Tonight I found the setup to make my Blondie extraction really shine. 28 g Nichrome, 10 wraps on 1/16" drill bit, duals in a Phoenix v5. Came in at .57 Ω and wicked with Koh Gen Do cotton...

    Natural Tobaccos - Part Deux

You're safe boomer. This is from an article in Pipes Magazine, Common Misconceptions About Pipe Tobacco. Latakia is made by hanging tobacco in a barn over a fire made with camel dung. This is probably the most common of all the old-wives’ tales about pipe tobacco. Looking at it from a logical...

Glad to see you made the jump. Like Jerms said, have some fun with it! Keep us posted and ask questions when in doubt. The process is really pretty simple and the rewards are satisfying.

    What have you extracted lately?

Ian, fire cured Burley seems to be a name developed in the vaping world. The name for it in the pipe smoking world is Dark Fired Kentucky. It is available as a blending tobacco (straight) and of course in many pipe blends and even cigars.

I love your posts cherry! You understand economy of words. Thanks to all for the kind words about my extractions! I enjoy doing it and sharing and I have six new ones coming off this month, 3 pipe blends, 3 cigars.

I'm really not sure Jerms. My Blondie extraction performs similarly, not as clear and distinct. Not that mine is bad, Brian's is just better. I wish I knew what his secret is and respect him for making some damn fine juice.

    Natural Tobaccos - Part Deux

I read a lot more than two articles to piece all that together. My shorts are fine, I just have a hard time with repeated misinformation, innuendo, and internet conspiracy theories. My extraction of Blending Perique is closer to GeJs than Clay's which seems light on the fermented edginess...
