Here are two posts from another thread that made it all click for me.
Post 1: (By a member named Zipp)
Figure out the resistance you want, cut a piece big enough to give slightly higher resistance (to make up for the part you attach to the posts), and wrap it up. The actual number of coils...
OK, I will just summarize. Coil wraps is not the absolute measurement for measuring the resistance of wire, the length of the wire is what produces the ohm measurement. It doesn't matter if you do 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 coils with the exact same length wire, the exact same length of wire will...
The wraps are not a constant variable as they can be bigger or smaller, even if you are using a guide like a toothpick or drill bit (which does help with consistency) and especially if its just freehand. The only constant variable you are dealing with is the scientific measurement of the...
The way most have recommended to me here on the forum is to start witih a multimeeter Amazon.com: Equus 3320 Auto-Ranging Digital Multimeter: Automotive (there are many, this is only one example but I like the large reading) then you can measure out the length at the resistence you want. Where...
@jazzi mike makes a great point about the length. If you take it down to the basics, it doesn't matter how many wraps you have as wraps are not what measures the ohms. Its the lenth of the piece of wire you use that determines the ohms. So if you use the exact same length of wire every time...
According to the FAA report testing 18650 venting occurred at 470 degrees F. I wonder if smaller batteries have a slightly lower threshold. None the less, probably no where near what we could hold in our hands before we knew something was NOT right and to throw it as far away as possible.
yes, I apologize I probably could have been more specific in my rant that the batteries themselves are not the ones producing the heat. The point I was conveying (at least in my head) was the laptops act like an oven and all of that heat is right next to the batteries in turn causing them to be...
My Data Input:
Sorry if this is a repeat, but here is a study (testing) done by the FAA about lion batteries and the 18650 cells so they know the dangers of them being on an airplane due to the fedex Memphis incident. Heck there is even a test where they put them in the oven and they didn't...
No worries my friend. I never think folks hijack. If there is a discussion going on and there are a few tangent questions I feel they always add to the knowledge gained.
My svd finally shipped from ft two days ago along with some mini PT's. hoping to be right there with you in a few days. Thought I would be fine with ego and evod but everyone raves so much of svd/vamo type devices I took the plunge. So it's really worth the vapogasm?
I had seen another post where the person mentioned using the multimeter but I do not have one as I was just going to wrap and use my vv device to check final ohms. With trimming the ends after putting in the base post and rubber grommet (im doing this for kanger attys), I didn't know difficult...
Thanks @zipp and @fourtytwo.
I guess I just see everyone "measuring" their rebuilds as 4-5 coils and they get certain ohms vs adding one more coil and then they get more ohms is why I was looking for a coil number to ohm type chart. Breaking it down to the basic fundamental fact that its...
Thanks @zipp so less wraps with kanthol a-1 vs more wraps with nichrome = same resistance?
Has anyone come across a good "chart" or rule of thumb of (x) amount of wraps at (y) gauge generally produces (z) ohms?
Thanks much sir. And thanks for your testimonial about which one you prefer. So thats one vote Kanthol...
I have read those previously and temco is going to be where I end up purchasing bulk. They also have a great write up on the flat kanthol and how it directly relates to vaping Flat...
I did a search on the forum for nichrome, and saw some people say they use it, but I was unable to find any discussions directly discussing why one would. So my questions:
Is there even a difference between the two or is it just name brand like coke vs pepsi?
Are there any quality...
haha @mike sheda
I have never had an issue dry burning immediately after running under hot water, giving a quick blow at the blow hole (that was for you mike) and dabbing with a paper towel. I have had some pretty gummed up coils before where I did get glowing red until the 15th round of that...
Hey we might hit 100 posts in the same thread. With this I am at 99 and I see you are 99 with starting this thread...on the second one do you think you didn't like it because the wick itself was too tight, or because of the higher ohms?
Which mesh did you go with? And from where? Do you seriously have to have a torch to do SS? I haven't done too much research but I did watch a couple of videos here and there, and the whole owning a torch thing is a little over the top for me personally. I'm assuming the mesh wick allows the...
yeah, I think I will let it steep. it simply tastes like chocolate with very very very very very slight hints of something more. I finally cracked gorilla open and its awesome, a lot going on with this one in comparison to bobas (sans steeping that is). Since I was there, I couldn't help...
