    Just firing it continuously wouldn't usually cause battery venting. A carto with a damaged connector causing a dead short might though. If it's a protected battery it will shut off (assuming the protection works!) but an unprotected one will heat up as it try's to dump all it's charge at once...

    Yep they also form a protective layer of oxide on the surface of the heating wire. I guess this might contribute to the slight resistance changes you get as they break in (I find the resistance normally goes up a bit once broken in) but don't know that is the case.

    Yep the 'rules' are a bit different with dual coils because a 1.5 ohm DCC would be made up of two 3 ohm coils, a 2 ohm DCC would be made up of two 4 ohm coils etc. The site is there now for me, are they not accepting orders? They sell a 1.6 ohm dual coil "recommended for 4.5-5v" - IKV 510...

    It seems to be almost identical to Kanthal A (not A1). It's rated to a continuous operating temperature of 1300 degrees c, and is made up of 22% Cr, 5.3% Al, and the balance Fe. I have heard of "A" being used on genesis atty's so I don't see any obvious reason why you couldn't use this.

    Thanks for the link Torchy. This site has load testing (@ 2A, 3A, 5A) for various batteries in sizes relevant to e-cigs, so it's not just a list of battery sizes. Some of them are quite shocking - Ultrafire BRC 18650 4000mAh protected - actual result @ 2A discharge = 99 mah :facepalm:

    I'm using a 1.5 ohm dual coil in a 3.5ml tank on a 5v box mod right now. Loads of vapour with 2 second drags, no burning taste.

    Yes you can use that but it might be too much for some and would suit short drags. A 1.5 ohm single coil would burn out very quickly at 5v, but a 1.5 ohm dual coil is made up of two seperate 3 ohm coils which should be OK. Not all devices are able to supply enough amps to power this though...

I don't have the tank in question, but as a guestimate 34 AWG (0.16mm) or 35 AWG (0.143mm) Nichrome 80 wire should allow you to get close to the target resistance with a reasonable sized coil.
