    Freezing 100mg nicotine base

You are either showing your age, or you have remarkably good taste in music for a youngun. Now I'm going to have pan flutes in my head all day. ;)

Precisely what AEMSA is trying to do, and then some, and why we are trying to do it.

    FDA Corruption Charges Letter Verified

Smart big tobacco is already jumping into the ecig business. Witness Blu being bought by Lorillard. The real concern is what they and the FDA will do to control the market and possibly destroy refillables and DIY. Mods too, perhaps. BT knows this is a huge money maker.

When should I be in panic mode?

For very pure nic, like this is, most likely yes, at least 2 years, probably much more. For lower purity PG-nic can go yellow-orange, and take on a somewhat tobacco-like taste within a year. VG-nic, regardless of quality, seems to remain unchanged for >3 years (longest I have monitored it)...

Terminally-ill woman opens e-cig store to help smokers

Thanks for this, Petrodus! This story has really affected me too. She looks pretty and vital in the picture. So very sad, and on so many levels. Will be interesting to see how this is treated, since they are openly saying they want to help people quit smoking. Wonder how cold and nasty the...

    Definitely not after high-temp torching!

Cheaper, But just how much cheaper ???

Actually I found that given what I pay for nicotine, the flavor can be more expensive than the nic. Seems the general figure is about $0.50 per 10 mL of juice, give or take a bit. For whatever reason, Steve's Mai Tai seems to be one of the more expensive ones. The nice thing too about DIY...

    Stainless Steel mesh, Oxide discussion.

Stainless steel is called stainless due to general resistance to oxidation (staining). Even if boiling water caused oxidation, it would never result in Cr(VI). You need anhydrous conditions for that, and a lot of heat. Boiling juice would be the same as boiling water. Without high-T...

Cheaper, But just how much cheaper ???

If your juice was 12 mg, it would cost me about $8.00 or less to make 150 mL of juice. Of course, that does not include the cost of buying flavors you do not like, buying dropper bottles, syringes, and other equipment. Or the time of making recipes that don't work for you. Making a juice is...

When should I be in panic mode?

Yes, when ordering DIY nic, just ask in the comments for Ultra-pure or Ice (they are very similar in tastelessnes). I believe the price is still the same as regular, which may have been a promotional price, given that these probably go through purification processes beyond regular nic. That...

Duke looking for young adults for Nicotine Study

The last study Lilkurty posted is to use an Ego with 18 mg juice and tobacco or tobacco-menthol flavoring to measure systemic nicotine levels. Seems this has been published already. Perhaps they are going to look at more parameters.

    Stainless Steel mesh, Oxide discussion.

Evidently a way of making the wick not short out the coil is to torch the wick, which produces a layer of metal oxides (non-conductive). The issue is if these oxides are themselves dangerous. They may contain a particular oxide of chromium (Cr(VI)) that is toxic, but we have yet to get the...

    Stainless Steel mesh, Oxide discussion.

Seems this setup with SS mesh and coil is causing the coil to ground to the body of the RBA. So how about something non-metal for the body of the RBA? Maybe even wood? This would obviously be a manufacturer's problem, but there are plenty of heat-resistant composites that could be machined...

Duke looking for young adults for Nicotine Study

Hmm. Not clear as to what the subject criteria is. Are these non-tobacco NRT users? Or nic-free adults? Does not say.

Agreed. Some typos I have found in very reputable journals have actually lead to erroneous directions in my research! They happen, and sometimes they are a problem. This one seems more like an incomplete footnote than a typo. I am more interested in the test results than a paper from the 90s...

Seems like a good idea, Boden, but then you have the whole silica (what it is) issue with particulates again.

No real decision yet. waiting for test results to show if Cr(VI) is present from torch oxidation of a SS wick. Based on scientific articles it seem it might not be, but will be good to know for sure. There is a question as to if it is formed and available depending on torch temperature (some...

Typos are not uncommon in peer-reviewed articles. You and the reviewers and the editor try to find them all, but some do slip through. There are a couple in mine.

When should I be in panic mode?

WL is in the process of moving their lab. I'm sure they will be back up fully, and then some, soon. Moving a lab is a nightmare and always takes longer than you think. I believe they are FDA certified because they also supply nicotine to big pharma, or are somehow involved with pharma...

But it looks like those studies were just up to 900C. You may well be correct, but these temps are potentially higher than that. I think the test results Boden is getting will say much, and may well remove much of the uncertainty, positively or negatively.
