Just ordered some new batteries...
Not that I know of... Maybe? Don't quote me on this... I THINK the CGRs are the hybrid type. The NCRs are Lithium/Cobalt. The NCR18650PD might be a hybrid type but I'm not sure. They're test results can be found here... Battery test-review 18650 comparator I wouldn't call them junk but I don't think they're as good under load as the ones we're talking about here.- jasl90

Thanks David! Looks good. AW is certainly no slouch. The fact that the Samsung beat it, even if by a narrow margin, shows that it's a good battery. Now only time will tell if it's able keep it up after N number of charging cycles.- jasl90

Yea... I think you're right. Seeing them side by side, they definitely look different. Mine and Bots look like the same thing. Yours is still very shiny around the edges. Mine and Bots are actually tarnishing evenly all the way to the edges of the button. -

My guess... There may have been a batch of buttons that got plated but weren't plated to spec. I don't know much about the process but it's my understanding that good plating requires the application of several layers... If this is true, I's suspect that ours my have simply received a single... -

No apology necessary. I am utterly impressed every time I pick up this device. It literally oozes quality. The issue with the button in no way diminishes that. The fact that you're willing to take care of the issue with no grief is all the more impressive. -

I can do that, or, if you're amenable to the idea, I'll buy it from you. While it doesn't look too good with the LUX tube, it looks great with my regular brass tubes. If you need the old button back for trouble shooting and QC purposes, I understand that too. -

I did find a ghetto use for ferric chloride... I got lazy one day and ground down some some brass pieces over the toilet in my spare bathroom (told ya... It's the one from the 2nd order (#6789). The serial number is 0307. The only reasons it concerns me... 1) The 1st one didn't do that. It kept it original shinny gold color. 2) I've been using it with a GM 18650 brass tube (yes, I slept through the LUX tub sale :(). The button is changing... -
