This may help, when it is dark in the room, take a flashlight and shine it low, across the rug, metal will shine so you can find it. I have done this a thousand times with needles and it works well. I usually end up also finding staples, pieces of wire, all sorts of stuff the furry little thiefs...- lostknitter
