That's an interesting suggestion. Do you mean make a big rayon wick that goes all the way from the mesh to the bottom of the tank? I always assumed rayon only came in the form of ropes, but after searching it seems I was mistaken.
It seems I may have been asking too much all around, as even...
It's good to hear that you haven't noticed a change in performance from cleaning your steel wicks, hopefully that means I haven't ruined mine. Do you ever do nonstop chain vaping with steel wick RDTAs? Maybe I'm just expecting too much wicking performance from mine.
I've vaped my Geekvape Zeus...
Installed 2 spare steel wicks without washing them first and decided to take some pictures of the new wicking.

Solution: make sure the steel ropes are installed the right side up (welding marks on the bottom, looks like a recessed circle around the central strand). Other good things to try: don't use more than half a cotton pad (before removing the skins) to wick the stock mesh. Cut the tails at a 45° or...
You can see the same kind of cosmetic damage on the official GeekVape YouTube channel video about the red & black version of the Zeus X. See the closeup between 0:03 and 0:05.
@Mordacai thanks, just installed a huge wick (barely fit even as I was pushing it down along with the spring-loaded ceramic block), hopefully that's enough pressure.
@BillW50 Agree on the Zeus X Mesh, my collection of single coil and dual coil atomizers, including the Zeus X with dual coils...
@Mordacai I've uploaded an image of the atomizer base with the new wick to the first post, to me it looks like the wicking is almost perfect, as it is just about fully saturated, but the hotspot at the top of the mesh strip is causing burnt hits. Thoughts?
@Spydro that's quite a collection, but...
Well, the 2nd wick (stock Geekvape) started giving me dry hits too, so I rewicked with my own wick, removing both outer layers, gently rolling it into a cylinder and cutting the ends diagonally (shorter at the top) so that only the bottoms of the wick are long enough to reach inside the juice...
Normally I take a square cotton pad, remove 1 or both outer layers and roll it into a wick for the Zeus X Mesh, but this time I used the last Geekvape wick that came with the tank. So far I've had no issues after installing the last Geekvape wick. Maybe I'm making my wicks the wrong way? Are you...
Added a picture. The browning on one end of the wick is a persistent phenomenon, I'm guessing it's due to the way I tilt the tank to vape + the wick contacting the chamber.
I cut the wick parallel to the end of the atmoizer (so the wick length is ~25mm).
I wasn't really thinking about posterity while I was going at it with a toothbrush. Luckily, some of the film is still left in the recesses of the airflow control ring. Updated the original post with the picture.
Geekvape Zeus X Red & Black after peeling the red film by Ionori posted Oct 4, 2020 at 12:27 PMI bought a Geekvape Zeus X tank in red & black, and while I love the performance, the paint* quality on it was awful. It started developing spots of clear stainless steel as soon as I started using it...
