    Variable voltage mod?

Thank you to all that have help me answer my original question. I appreciate it. I will be starting a new thread later today with a parts list and a schematic of my adjustable voltage mod.

    RC Plane Fans

Sounds like you been doing it a long time. My first glider was in 1975.....dam I am old...lol This is the best video I have ever seen showing a prop plane. YouTube - Model airplane

    RC Plane Fans

And people on this board think that they spend a lot of $$$$ on e-cigs. That hobby can really kill your credit rating...lol It is a lot of fun. I started with electric boats, then gas boats, then elec planes, then gliders, then 1/12 RC cars, Then 1/10 trucks, and now only helicopters...

    RC battery

I know I am going to sound like a complete geek....but its the only way I know to explain it...sorry in advance. Lets look at an e-cig battery setup..you have a battery putting out about 3.7 volts what an atty of around 3 ohms some are lower(LR) and some are higher(HR). 3.7 volts with an 3...

    Variable voltage mod?

I put the resistor on it to show I can really pull that voltage into a resistive load. Without a “real” load, in this cast a 2.2 ohm resistor simulating an atty or a carto, I could show that voltage with a few round watch batteries and a cheep adjusting POT or should I say variable resistor...

    Variable voltage mod?

Have you tested this one “AP1084”? Is the spec sheet correct when it says”1.4V Maximum Dropout at Full Load Current”. That seems like a lot. The LT1764 looks like a very neat IC. I will have to get one of these to play with. I am already using a 5 pin and the specs are very close to what...

    Variable voltage mod?

Thanks Buzzkill I will try that. I fixed my other post also. When Juicefreak talked about 3 amp POT before in his post....amp got stuck in my head. I meant to say .5 watt control resistor not .5 amp. Sorry for the confusion Buzzkill and Roadrash. That will teach me to have beer when I am...

    Variable voltage mod?

Roadrash, You are correct. The control resistor has very low current through it. In the milli amp range. In the picture below you can see the voltage is 6.57 volts. That is into a 2.2 ohm resistor. I did not want to try this with a real carto because I thought the carto would fry with that...

    Variable voltage mod?

Thanks again juicefreak. I think I was not clear when I said my ver. res. was only .5 amps....I should of said (.5 watts) The way my circuit works is the ver. res. is only in the control circuit not the output. In this setup .5 (Watts not) amps is overkill by a power of 10. If I find a...

Lithium Polimer Ion ok no clue how to spell

They are very much the same inside... the big difference is that that the "polymer" type are almost always a square flat pack. We use them in helicopters because they are flat and wide...not round like a regular battery. and most if the time they are just rapped in a plastic cover....importent...

    Variable voltage mod?

Switched, Thanks I will change that on the "real" one I make. This was just a test "mule" to see if the regulator will hold up.

    RC battery

Centax, I hope you are talking about using just some of the batteries in that pack...They look like NI-HM (nickel-metal hydride cells). Each one in there is 1.2 volts. You have (6) 1.2 volt batteries there. If you just hook the up to a PT that does not have a battery in it, you will hit your...

    5VDC Regulator.. 1 Amp Can i use???

MuddyBears, The variable one I just built is putting 2.15 amps into a 2.2 ohm load (10 watt resistor). I dialed in the voltage to 5.volts and it reads 2.15 amps to the load. ( I know ohm's law says it should be 2.27) You would need a atty with a higher resistance then 2.2 to use the 2...

    Variable voltage mod?

Juicefreak, Thanks. This is my first "box" type mod. I have made a few Variable voltage PT's with this same chip, but this is my first one running on batteries. Oh... the variable in mine is only .5 watts

    Variable voltage mod?

Roadrash, Here are a few pics. The next one will be better looking. This one is just a test one. Cover side: The little blue hole is the adjust screw hole.to adjust the output from 2.5-7.0 volts Case side: Bottom: The little gold hole is a LED that lights to show the output...

    Variable voltage mod?

Roadrash, That name brings back memories. I did a stupid thing once.... Shifting into 3rd on the bike I went over backwards......I could not sit down for months. double knit pants (yes it was the 70's) and cement do not mix. I will get pics up ASAP. I have been hitting this thing "hard" for...

    Variable voltage mod?

Doots, Thanks so much for the reply. I agree that the 3.7 mods with a single battery are cheaper to make. I have looked at some of the 5 volt ones that use a regulator and the one I made only adds a variable resistor (about $2 more) and a different single chip. It also needs two batteries...

    Variable voltage mod?

I have to ask a question….. Why are all (almost all) the mods I see ether fixed voltage ie. 3.7, 5, 7.4 or they use a switch to select a voltage from a 7.4 volt pack ie. 4.2, 4.5, 5.0,….? I have been looking around the board for a few weeks and every time someone talks about making a variable...

Lithium Polimer Ion ok no clue how to spell

Vleath, Tell your husband that they will work (I have used 3.7 and 7.4 "electrifly" on my mods. !!!!!! Make sure that they have built in protection. I had a chopper go down in flames once from a bad pack. A mod that I use when I want to use protected and non-protected batteries is to install...
