I know exactly what you mean and in fact that's what I have been doing. As I've pondered this more, I wonder if doing dry burns is exacerbating the problem, in that, with the absence of juice to act as a cooling agent, the wire in the twist is getting hot enough to melt into the plastic. I can... -

I can see where there are "melt marks" in the plastic at the top of the wire/wick slits on both sides of the top plastic. Wondering if anyone else is getting this? When I went to change the coil/wick today one side of the twisted wires came out of the slit freely but the other side was stuck... -
Wicks for Iatty
Just used the MAPP on four strands of wick for several minutes. One of the strands got whitish from the silver color and I found that it was brittle and when bent it basically broke apart. The other three strands kinda look white but still have some silver. I also noticed that the ends where... -

That doesn't tell me how long it will take. I've used propane for several minutes on the wicks and they continue to mock me. I'll use my MAPP tank and wipe the smile off their pretty little.......er, strands. -

How long does it take? Wouldn't think butane would get hot enough. I was using propane which I believe burns hotter. Just got a MAPP torch. We'll see how the wicks like that. -

Must be fairly lucky as I dry burn all my attys. I dry burn my iAtty to clean the coil but that doesn't count since I have almost 1000' of wick and wire. No, don't believe I'll run out any time soon.- Repent

That doesn't address in any way the gunk stuck to the coil and wick though. I use dark juices and have to clean my attys or my current iAtty every day to keep them not only performing well but tasting as they should. Would love if it were that easy. :(- Repent

So what is the word about cleaning the hybrids? I had read as I remember to never dry burn them but to clean in vodka for an hour or so. I'm OK with that but that doesn't remove the gunk burned to the wire from using dark, sweet (TV) juices. I've only seen a dry burn do that. I read about...- Repent

You are dead on with the over tightening of the hybrid being the culprit. I had previously read about the special design of the atty bottom and how it was made for the Vmod but would work on all bottom feeders with the caveat to be mindful that it is a different design and as such would not...- Repent
