Have you tried any of the newer single coil RTA's that have room for large builds? I was just like you until I got the Envii Artisan. I can fit very large Fused Claptons. The vape can rival most dual coil RTA's without using the high wattage required.

Personally, I think #1 on your list is a non starter. I don't like any Dual Coil RTA in Single Coil Mode. Every one that I've tried pales in comparison to a true Single Coil RTA.
Maybe it's just me but I was not a fan of the Engine RTA. The top airflow doesn't extend down far enough to get that really saturated vape that I like. The flavor wasn't muted but it was kind of dry.
Considering how thin the material is, I would say that 5mm is not as big as you might think. A clapton wire with a 26g core and a 32g wrap would likely be the same size if you wrapped it on a 3.5mm rod.
