    You need to have air flow. Soggy cotton will just absorb (especially tampons) and will be difficult to draw. I think cheese cloth would get all wet and clumpy. That's why something that holds liquid but doesn't absorb it all works better.

    I haven't read the whole thread but it could just be you need to drink a glass of water before going to sleep. My husband tried this and his throat isn't dry or sore in the mornings anymore.
