    A Flawed E-Cigarette Regulation

Here here! :toast: In addition to nicotine I am also addicted to caffeine, sugar, anything that contains potatoes, the company of dogs, ECF, and currently the Game of Thrones marathon I'm in the middle of (hence my frequent absence as of late) :D

NYT: New Calculus on Smoking, It’s Health Gained vs. Pleasure Lost

It's no secret that quitting smoking can predispose to a long-lasting depression. A doctor of mine once told me a story: He had a good friend who was a smoker for 30-some years before he quit. This man used to love going for walks in his large backyard; it was something he did almost every...

NYT: New Calculus on Smoking, It’s Health Gained vs. Pleasure Lost

Note how they said "probably" - which is code for "we really have no idea what we're talking about so we'll just take a stab in the dark here..." :glare:

    A Flawed E-Cigarette Regulation

"Addiction" is very ill-defined, even now. In psychology they distinguish between "addiction" and "dependence," yet some claim that dependence is just another form of addiction, while others claim that all forms of addiction are just fulfilling a need of some kind and not addiction in the...

FDA So what might really happen with regulations/bans? Should we be stocking up?

It looks to me like the intention of FSPTCA is to regulate online sales for the purpose of preventing sales to minors, not to outright ban them. Of course, it would be easier to just straight up ban them, but I don't think that's what the original act had in mind. Nevertheless, it doesn't seem...

Anther newspaper article that gets it right

Yes, this is an absolutely excellent article! Well done! I had so much to say about this, but everything I wanted to say was already covered by the posts above mine  So also, well done previous posters! :thumb:

Yeah I've been the same way, there's so much going on in each thread I keep getting them mixed up! Probably part of my confusion there... Oh gosh yeah! I need a good long puff... :vapor:

Thank you :) apology accepted. I did feel very much like that to me - tho I think I'm kind of hypersensitive at the moment, I am sorry I took it the wrong way. I'll go back and edit my post. With regards to the stat I quoted, I did read that as official data somewhere, I don't remember...

Dow chemical refusing to supply Propylene Glycol to e-cigarette industry

I have to disagree with that. There are way too many of us now. It would be difficult for the powers that be to squash vaping out of existence. And even if they did, there are too many of us that will remember, and we will bring it back :D As for companies like DOW and DHL, they are merely...

Smokers use ecigs more than nicotine gum or patches to quit

I love this article! They present the study results, being absolutely clear that the study did not show whether e-cigarettes are effective at helping people quit smoking, then later in their discussion they shared the study published in Addiction showing that they are effective. Excellent...

I've never even been to a metropolitan area that big! Wow! According to wiki, my town contains about 4,500 people. I think they're counting some of the cows by mistake though, because it really doesn't seem like there's that many people here...

FDA Extremely well done (and not yet available) FDA comment

I want to point out here that there is no such thing as a "certainty" in science. When we state something is a "fact", there is always the possibility, however remote, that it could be wrong. What we do know is the effects of nicotine on the human body, the effects of PG and VG on the lungs...

FDA Lorillard comments to the FDA deeming regs

They really didn't expand much on that point, they simply included it in a bullet list of recommended regulations. The entire rest of the document stands on it's own merit. Plus you have to keep in mind that the definition/endorsement of adulteration/misbranding will depend entirely on whether...

FDA Lorillard comments to the FDA deeming regs

Thank you for the clarification. So that means in the future they can claim that they're fighting counterfeitting when in reality they are fighting anyone who didn't get their SE/PMTA approved. How nice. :glare: I think you're absolutely right on this one. I don't think the Vapor Hut...

You need to take into account population density here. You list your location as "The OC," so I take it you live in an urban or suburban environment, correct? I only list Buffalo because it is my nearest city, but it is actually a good drive from the town I live in (I'm thinking of changing...

FDA Extremely well done (and not yet available) FDA comment

Well that's exactly it - very few here would argue against basic safety standards. Unfortunately they need to be reasonable, i.e. actually promote safety, and not be prohibitive. Unfortunately I think this is fast approaching the territory of "when pigs fly" at this point.
