    How long should my AW Batteries last?

    Yeah, maintenance is important - and it could be your charger, too. Check the battery voltage when they're fresh off the charger. It should be 4.2 volts.

    I want a Variable Voltage set-up

    My 5ml MAP tank sits flush on my ProVari, and they're almost identical in diameter, but it doesn't qualify on the "not too expensive" requirement unless you compare the cost to cigarettes. For me, it's about two weeks worth of smokes, and worth the price, which makes it not too expensive. YMMV.

    'specially seeing as how they add zinc to it, just to make it conductive. ;) If it's smearing all over the place, you're using way too much of it. I put a small dab (smaller around than a pencil eraser) on my finger and smear it into the grooves of the ProVari unit. None at all on the end cap...

    If you keep your total power draw down, then yes, you can use those. If you start to push it (like using dual coil cartos), then you'll get auto shut-offs when the ProVari detects it can't pull power fast enough from the battery.
