You may not be getting enough juice to the coil. The bcc's have two or three pieces of wick laying on top of the main wick/coil. I personally remove one of the extra wicks and they work great for me.. Especially the VapeOnly.

I think they are just bare aluminum. The spots in the pictures look like oxidation from a reaction with chlorine (or something else). The same thing happens to aluminum in swimming pools. Are you able to wipe them off?

City water? Maybe the chlorine in the water is reacting with the aluminum.

Just curious.. what problems are you having with dry burning? I have dry burned the heads twice (just did one a few minutes ago) and the only issue I had was having to push the head down into the base while on the mod to fire it. I was successful though. Funny enough, it really didn't...
