I just meant that many journalists would consider fact checking with the FDA, CDC, ACS, etc. as due diligence. John Q. Scientist's snarky blog refuting tobacco control studies would not be considered by most as a credible source, and let's face it, that's what we have unless they happen to look...
It's easy to blame the media, but I think the true problem is that "may" and "could" don't belong in scientific studies/press releases.
I keep thinking how we must all look screaming "TRUTH" against the likes of the FDA, CDC, ALA, ACA, etc.
The Recreation side pushed the benefits of taxation. The Medicinal side actually believes it is medicine and shouldn't be taxed any more than any other prescription medication.
Which legislation are you talking about? Most of what I've heard about lately is the push to raise the age limit to 21.
Remember, it's not the Tobacco Control Act, it's the Family SMOKING PREVENTION and Tobacco Control Act. It's the smoking prevention part, "attempting" to make sure new...
it's never been about taking it off the market though, it's about making the vapor industry as close to the cigarette industry as possible, and turning public opinion to the point where the marginalized can be taxed without public outcry.
Agreed, but I wonder about it a lot with many of the comments I read here and elsewhere, from vapers. We already know the general public equates vaping with smoking, because they've been taught to do that. Many vapers see vaping as "medicinal," it's sole purpose being a method to quit smoking...
Let me rephrase the question, because I don't think my point is getting across.
Is it acceptable for vapor companies to market to anyone other than current/former smokers?
I'm curious, what do you all see as the future of the vaping industry? Does it have a built in lifespan? What is the plan once all of the smokers have switched, quit, or died?
Does vaping have a place as a general use consumer product? Can the industry try to attract new customers who have...
I'm late to the party but, try that with pain meds and you'll get reported to your doctor and the pharmacy will refuse to fill your prescription. I know, it's happened to me before.
Now that will be interesting, and only about 22 years(assuming they come out this year) later than they were supposed to come out with tobacco industry guidelines.
Agreed, though the general discussion does highlight an issue we have in vaping advocacy as well, namely, we can’t all agree on terms.
Take the word children. When I talk about children and vaping, I almost always mean mid to late teens. When the FDA says children, they could mean the teens...
What Ionori said.
Generally used when someone expresses opinion as fact, at least in my usage. The Urban Dictionary definition provided is definitely not the accepted current usage by all.
We could have full discussions of what is protected speech, where it is protected, etc. but perhaps we've digressed far enough?
I heard a radio PSA today with a tag line something like: "There's no tobacco product with a safe level of exposure."
"thickening of the skin" would be counter to the idea, and again, I approach from the original meaning because it(sadly) still holds value. It also is sad that there has to be policy in place to tell people not to engage in hate speech. Many people's definition of common decency is "I don't find...
Just to hopefully clear the safe space issue up for you, here’s some of the history.

I’m not sure where the mocking started, maybe when the term became more mainstream. I remember my introduction to...
