Don't think that Took much effort. Let along much of an Organized effort.

Ask a Non-Drinker what they think about Taxes on Alcohol. Bet you will hear More Times (A Lot more times) than Not... "Don't Know. Don't really care. I Don't Drink."

I mean, it is Pretty Darn Difficult to get Vapers/vape Retailer's to do Anything. Not sure why Non-Vaper's are going to get All Up in Arms over a Fight they don't have a Dog in?
Yeah, they passed a tax, something like 13%, on medicinal other stuff so I don't have a whole lot of faith in people anymore.

There is Also the "Other Side" when it comes to Taxes.

At that is if Something Doesn't Effect an Individual, then Many will adopt the "Better them than Me" attitude. And Actually Support the Tax in the Misguided thinking that this Tax will "Be Enough". And that whatever the Individual is into will somehow be Safe.

Now... Of Course, this is just Wishful Thinking. Because the Spending Never Goes Down. It just Keeps Going Up and Up and Up. So Every Year they have to look for More and More (and More) things to Tax.

BTW - Isn't that the Way that that Other Market has made Inroads among people who Don't Approve of it in that form. That it will be Taxed.

Seems they found something the government likes more than nannying, taxing.

It's a Perfect Dynamic.

If you went to a Lot of People and said we want to Sell this, many would say No, I don't think that is a Good Idea.

But if you go to them and Say we want to Sell this and it will be Heavily Taxed, so that it will help the Schools, and the Hospitals and the Roads and the (Insert whatever you think needs more Funding here =>) __________, then that Sways People. And can get you into that 50%+ Zone needed for a Ballot Initiative.

And those swayed can start to Adopt that "Better them than Me" thing I described above.

The Same thing is going to Happen with e-Cigarettes. When the Tax on e-liquids starts to approach the PAD Rate that Smokers pay, I don't think too many people are going to be all that Bent like the way Some are (Acting) Now.

In Fact, I think Many will start to Embrace e-Cigarettes.

Sad that they Can't just get behind e-Cigarettes based on Public Health. But then again, when has Public Health ever been a Higher Priority than Taxes in the USA? Not really in My Lifetime at least.

Don’t tax you,
Don’t tax me,
Tax that fellow behind the tree.

Good luck. :)

The Recreation side pushed the benefits of taxation. The Medicinal side actually believes it is medicine and shouldn't be taxed any more than any other prescription medication.

It's hard to have it Both Ways. Especially after telling People to Vote Yes because of all the Tax Monies it will bring in.

And If it is for Medical use, then aren't there People that are going to Argue that it should be Regulated like a Drug? Kinda like where we were in Late 2009 - Earlier 2010?

I know this Thread is all about going Off Topic. But this is One Topic that will probably get a Visit from someone with a Hammer.

So I'll bow out and Rebuild a RDA that is in Need of a New Coil.

I've thought the same thing. Except nicotine is extracted, it is within the FDA's abilities.
The way the FDA wants to regulate tobacco displays whey they are unable to regulate plants. Nature is not perfect enough for them (or government in general). You end up with mashed plants with everything extracted, the plants dried into a sheet with measured amounts of everything extracted plus some additions added back in. And they create something more harmful than it originally was, but everyone is happy because it's regulated.

I do wish the other topic was able to be discussed more freely. There are similarities to what's going on with ecigs that could help.

Until it hits their addiction to money. Then their taxation becomes their vice so they can't control, like protecting tobacco.

Yeah, we disagree. The taxation and regulation is a way to keep people down. When people are down, they're more easily controlled. I agree that there is a 'crossover' with some politicians, but the main goal is control. With control, more money comes, but if the control is not there - if people resist more taxes and regulation, then control is not as easy to come by.

Another indication is that those who continue in gov't get their own money over and above any they'd be able to create in the private sector. So 'money' becomes secondary and when anyone resists their control, they turn the screws even tighter. It's what happened with Gates and Microsoft and is likely to happen with Zuckerberg and Facebook. There are other 'historical' evidence - railroads, steel, etc. not worth getting into here.

Again, we disagree, and both views have been stated. No need for me to further the discussion. Which is no disrespect toward you. :- )

Just look at the unmentionables. Government had all the control they could want, but the only way they got money was to confiscate and in total it lost money. The people offered the government billions in taxes instead of spending billions trying to control and we're moving towards giving up total control for the revenue.
And government is finding if they don't want to give up all the control so they over regulate they're losing out on the taxes.

Could it happen to ecigs? A little on my end but most of it would have to come at the profit end of liquids, it has to stay cheaper than smoking. I don't know if it's out of the niche market profit needs to afford that. (But I do think FDA's centralizing of the businesses to afford their regulations is an attempt to move towards that.)

:D Blame involuntary compulsive shinyitis…

A man’s admiration for absolute government is proportionate to the contempt he feels for those around him.
—Alexis de Tocqueville

The doctrine of self-interest properly understood does not inspire great
sacrifices, but every day it prompts some small ones; by itself it cannot
make a man virtuous, but its discipline shapes a lot of orderly, temperate,
moderate, careful, and self controlled citizens. If it does not lead to virtue,
it establishes habits which unconsciously turn it that way. —
Adam Smith

Good luck. :)

We live in a country divided into two tribes that feel absolute contempt for each other. You need a really powerful government in order to utterly crush the bad half of the population. It all makes sense really. If only I could figure out which side is completely right and which side is completely wrong!

I only have contempt for the violent and coercive. They are a small minority which wreaks havoc and discord among the rest of us. Regrettably altogether too many are apologists for them or avert their gaze in fear of the sad truth. In some measure I agree it would be wonderful to take back our control as individuals. To reassert our own and true common imperatives. But using the power of gov is precisely what that arrogant and devious minority would wish upon us, as they are driven by their disdain for all of us. Sooner or later though that blade cuts both ways for all who wield it. We must be careful not to become them. They are convicted by their acts.

Gov is only a tool. Our adversaries are those who would sharpen the edges and ask us to hold it by the blade end for them.

An FDA big enough to give us what we want is an FDA powerful enough to take it away.

Good luck. :)

I believe that division is wrought upon us deliberately by people who see it as a useful tool to distract us from seeing what's really going on, so they can satisfy the big guys behind the curtain and maintain their lucrative positions of power. Even if they have to take turns running the circus.

An FDA big enough to give us what we want is an FDA powerful enough to take it away.

And we know it. When we talk about the FDA and which way it will go on vaping, we most often talk in terms of which influence group is most effectively pulling their strings. But once again we are often distracted from that realization by the tribal smokescreen. It's just this Party or that Party which makes the FDA do bad stuff.

I'll be sure to post it here first when I figure out the answer.

My opinion: The side that seeks to "utterly crush", using the power of government, the other is completely wrong. I am a member of neither "tribe". I think that I may be an outlier. I am pleased to be so.

What we really need is a unifying factor. Never in my life has this country been so united as on Sept 11, 2001. On that day and the weeks and months afterwards there were no tribes, we were all one, because we had 1 common goal that we all unified around. That day was a negative factor and relatively short lived, but I would like to find some POSITIVE unifying factor that could be just as strong. I just haven't been able to think of anything yet. There has to be something though.
