AV IMR 14650 Potentially SERIOUS Issue. Help!

Watch out for the signs of lithium poisoning. I gave myself a minor case of it with a similar situation (unprotected 18350, I overcharged it and wasn't careful with the liquid that came out of the vents). --Dave

    E-Power 14650 With Dual-Coil Cartomizer from SmokTek.com

Also showed 0.1 on the voltmeter. It was dead, Jim. The ginourmous Ego-specific DCC from SmokTech seems to be the same thing in almost every respect, just slightly different dimensions. I think they're just barely different enough not to fit on each other without an adapter. --Dave

    E-Power 14650 With Dual-Coil Cartomizer from SmokTek.com

Just an update: Rob from SmokTek is sending me a replacement battery. Says he hasn't had any other batteries turn up DOA, and I have to admit I was surprised myself, I've had a lot of cylindrical cells in all sizes and never had one just not work at all. Anyway, it's all good now. --Dave

    Smoktech Dual Coil Cartomizers

I just got an E-Power 14650 and ordered a pair of E-Power DCC's, the ones made specifically for the unit These are the *shiznit*, 5.5mL capacity, an easy draw (easier than analogs), and huge vapor. They fit tightly to the unit but have a pair of airholes on the side near the sealing ring to...

    E-Power 14650 With Dual-Coil Cartomizer from SmokTek.com

Tried that, as well as using my other charger. When I first put it in, it gave me a red light, at some point in the next hour it switched to a red-green rapid blink, and it does nothing in my other charger or in the E-Power. My best guess is that the PCB failed. --Dave

    E-Power 14650 With Dual-Coil Cartomizer from SmokTek.com

Been inactive here since I decided not to follow up on my e-pipe (and many props to the Jazz Pipe for making it work). Been using my homebrew mods since then, but lately I've been traveling and don't have access to most of my tools. Finally got tired of sticking my mods back together with...

    My take on the Magnum/Trailerpark

If you want to make JB Weld look pretty: 1) Use a crapload more than necessary, build up at least an extra 1/8 inch (1/4 is better). 2) Use a mini-lathe to trim it down. If you've got a *really* steady hand you might be able to do it with a rotary tool, and there are lathe frames designed...

    AW 2600 mAh 18650's

AW batteries definitely turned out to be worth the premium. Better high-load performance, more charging cycles before they fade, better shelf life. I'm not using cylindrical batteries for my mods anymore (I'm all about the Li-Poly flatpacks now), but the only cylindrical based model I don't...

Has anyone tried using LiPol Batteries?

I've been happy with the performance of the flatpacks in my Lenmar PPUMINI's and DigiPowers, and I'm planning on some more experiments with flatpacks. LiPoly flatpacks can handle 10C discharge rates without breaking a sweat, where 2C from much larger cylindrical batteries is pushing it. Lenmar...

My 510 Pass through is dead... what can I do with it now?

I should have said "200 full cycles". Deep-discharging does reduce battery life. --Dave

    Safety of USB Passthroughs?

USB standard is 500mA. *However*, the PSU rail feeding it is generally designed to feed 3 others, and is rated for 2.1-1.5A. So direct-drive PST's generally work, but they also probably void your warranty. If it's all you got, you do what you have to, but as a way of avoiding spending the $25...

USB 5V Lithium Li-ion Battery 1 Cell Charger Board

Just hook to the battery, that connects to your atty (via the switch) and you're golden. --Dave

My 510 Pass through is dead... what can I do with it now?

510's are also the hardest on batteries, they get that big vapor production by running a lot of current. Any stock eCig battery is going to have a short life compared to a big-bat or flatpack mod, but it will be most noticeable on a 510. They're rated for 200 cycles, if you're recharging 3-4...

USB 5V Lithium Li-ion Battery 1 Cell Charger Board

Looks like a MAX1555 chip and support circuit, should work just fine. *Very* cheap price, hard to get the chip alone for that unless you're ordering huge quantities. Wish it had a mini-B socket rather than a full-size A plug, but it would be a fairly straightforward replacement. --Dave

    Crazy battery question...

Not quite, same manufacturer but this is what I was talking about. --Dave

    Battery question.

Look in the Nico-Stick thread, there are sources for battery boxes there that will also carry 4-AA models.

    Can you find batteries locally?

You're not likely to find cylindrical Li-Ion batteries in a store, and if you do the prices will be insane (bad enough it would be cheaper to buy from a US source and have them overnight it). You can find some Li-Poly flatpacks and chargers at RC stores, but they'll generally be for higher...

    Crazy battery question...

Yes. But a MAX1811 or MAX1555 charger chips are cheap and will give you protection on both sides (keeping you from trying to charge with a source voltage *lower* than the battery voltage). Although the example circuit calls for some additional components, they're not really needed and you...

    Battery question.

Yes, there are mods that used 3-4 AA NiMH batteries in series, mostly built around battery boxes. They make good emergency backups, since you can almost always find NiMH batteries (or in a pinch, alkalines), but they're bulky and unaesthetic. --Dave

    Battery Questions

3.0V is too low for eCigs, there are mods that use 3.0V CR123's in series to provide 6V (and then generally a regulator to pull it back down to 5V). Flat packs of various kinds are rising in popularity recently, the DigiPower and Lenmar PPUMINI "USB Backup Power" units have been used a lot...
