1.3ohm micro coil (cotton wick) on MVP 2/Protank 2. Fires fine but tastes best at >= 10 watts. Safe?

After searching and reading here, I've learned that my MVP 2 has a max output of 3 amps when it's fully charged at 4.2v. I read through this post (awesome, btw, from what I could understand) and, after trying my hand at wrapping micro coils with both 28 and 32 gauge Kanthal on a 1/16" drill bit I finally wrapped and wicked one with an organic cotton ball that is performing great without flooding or dry hits. (The first 2 wicks I must not have done properly.) It's the 28 gauge wrapped 10 times around the drill bit.

The 1.3ohm was first shown with the MVP's checker but, to be absolutely sure, I pulled the coil back out and tested it on an ohm meter and it read 1.32ohms. In that thread I linked above, the math shows that the amps on this coil with my mod fully charged would be 3.23, unless I messed up. And, from what I've read after searching, that should make the mod downgrade(?) automatically to 3 amps even.

Bottom line, I'll throw the coil out in a heartbeat if it's too low for whatever watt setting I use so my question: is this coil safe to use on this mod? And, is my math incorrect based on that thread that I should be getting the same amps at 9 vs. 10 watts? I'd swear I get better taste and vape at 10/10.5/11 but the brain is a funny thing.

most regulated mods will cut back the voltage or wattage to be within their limits. They will still display what you set them at but will fire at a lower setting if needed to be within the upper setting

you will find that lower ohm coils will use up your batteries charge much faster than a normal resistance coil. They will also greatly reduce the usable life of your battery and in the case of an MVP the life of the mod

I have found I get a fantastic amount of vapor and throat hit with my kayfun lite+ tobeco clone (yes, I said clone, start the stoning now) with a 2.1 ohm coil with cotton

just my 2 cents

Funny you should mention that, I have a tobeco clone (Kayfun 3.1) on order set to arrive early next week. Money is too tight to get the real thing but I wanted to try my first RBA after finally getting a working PT2 coil rebuild.

Ok, if this coil could hurt my mod I'll get rid of it and wrap another. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Out of curiousity, what would you say is the cut-off for harming the mvp2? I've got a 1.5ohm (single) coil on my igo-w right now, and using my mvp2. It seems best at about 9w.

Thanks for hijacking :) btw tobeco kayfun is awesome.

Btw I run 1.8 rebuilt in my pt2 with 30 guage, 1/16 bit, 8/9 wraps and run at 3.8v or 8 watts. Works great.

From your setup try stay below 4.0v which is 3amps and 12 watts. Make a 1.6/1.8 or 30 guage 1/16 but and 7/8 or 8/9 wraps to keep you out of trouble.

Here us the calc too. Ohm's Law Calculator
