On Jan 1st of 2010, I saw an online ad for an ecig. I did some research and decided I would give it a try. Found Volcano and ordered a kit with the tiny cigalike batt and flavored carts. I will never forget going outside the first morning, early, as I didn't want anyone to see me using it. My first thought was, 'This could actually work.'

Of course, not knowing what I was doing, I had an equipment failure so I bought a pack of cigs and quickly ordered another kit. When I got everything up and running on 1/5, I knew this was it. I had a bit of a panic attack not having cigs around 'just in case' until I realized that if things ever got that desperate, I could go to the store and buy more, even in the middle of the night. Happy to say I never bought another pack nor did I ever smoke even one after that.

It has been an amazing 12 years and I am so thankful for the technology, the helpful people I met along the way. It saddens me to see it being taken away and I think about if I had waited until now to start vaping, I might not have had the opportunity to quit smoking.

Thanks to everyone who went on this journey with me.

I'm so happy for you, Rosesense. Though we all are different, your journey describes elements we have variously experienced in leaving behind the demon tobacco in favor of vaping. That first inkling, "this could actually work", was the beginning of joy and gratitude. I kept the last half carton of cigarettes in a cupboard, "just in case", for years. I would see them now and then, and think "ah, I remember you, but I don't need you anymore". I had my last cigarette in late 2012, but I didn't throw away those "just in case" cigarettes until last year.

I agree, the saddest thing about authoritarian politicians on soapboxes is that so many others may never be delivered from smoking.

Happy new year, and best wishes to you on the continued journey toward health, happiness and community.

You have done well. You are much stronger than I. If I had kept any in the house, I would have smoked them. You are so right about different things working for different folks, we each have to find our own path on this journey.

Happy New Year and thanks for the warm wishes.

Way to go Rose! Funny to me that your mention of keeping a pack around just in case reminded me that I kept an unopened pack on the top shelf of a cupboard when I quit. It sat there for five years till I finally threw them away.

Congrats, rose :) You’ve done well. It took me awhile to find ECF but I’m 5 months behind you in vaping.

    Congratulations

It's trailblazers like you and the other long term ECF members, who were able to stop smoking and switch to vaping using cigalikes etc - that I admire the most.
