14500 vs standard AA

I built a cheap 3.7v box mod, and it's got me interested. I tried using a standard AA battery in it, but for some reason it doesn't fire (and the LED doesn't light either). I didn't do anything special, it's basically just wires going from the battery to a button to the atty connection. But why is it that AA's won't work?

With how cheaply I threw it together I figured anything with decent power that made a connection would make it fire, obviously this isn't the case.

I ask because moving on I'd like to experiment with different battery sizes and I'd like to make sure I don't do something that'd cause em not to work. Specifically what I'm looking at using next is an 18640.

AA batteries are something like 1.7v not enough umph .

Ok simple enough, I was hoping it was something like that. I still figured if it didn't have the power to fire the atty the LED would light, but whatever.

Well I am not 100% sure, but the LED should still light up, BUT that possibility is only with the atty disconnected ....since with the atty in the circuit I believe the resistance would be too high for the AA to even light up the LED.

It wouldn't light up even without any other parts - too low voltage. LEDs need around 3V to work. You could build a really easy converter though... search for the "Joule thief".
