The question should be flat tops and button tops. One has a button, the other doesn't, which may or may not be relevant with design, but would require a spacer to operate if it didn't, not my cup of tea, and a deal breaker.

In the designing stages this is a pretty insignificant point, but something extremely significant later. The switch design should be able to compensate for the length of button and flat tops. providing the top cap positive connection has the capability of seating properly against the positive terminal of the battery, whether it has a flat or button top.

This would permit the use of LI- Ion batts and IMRs on the P18. IMRs are great at lower capacity but the AW LI Ion wins in large capacity HD batteries, some will argue this point. However, actual in the fiels tests prove otherwise.

Besides I need to know which batteries to order. One is protected the other isn't because of different chemistry. However, they are both the same length.

Dave makes his buttons adjustable (take out or add washers).
so I would bet money that the battery you are asking about would fit with a small magnet added as the button on your flat top battery.

The original 10440 Precise buttons are not adjustable. Whether or not the new ones will be, has yet to be seen or discussed (that I'm aware of).

You did not read my post sorry. I stated that using a spacer (magnet) was not an option. My request is a very simple one in the design stages, and directed more at Dave than anyone else. I appreciate the help.

Wrt the bottom button, I understand it is to compensate for battery length differential of protected batteries. Length is not the onyl thing we need to consider here as well, girth is another important factor. I have a set that are darn tight in my lizard. Same batteries, from the same place, 1 set out of 4 is tight.

When David first announced the P18, I asked him about the new AW flat tops. He said that they would indeed work. He didn't say anything about needing use a spacer. He has also said in the past that he doesn't recommend using spacers. So I'm ASSUMING that you wouldn't need one.
Hope that helps :D

Not sure what happened to my first reply, but here goes again.

David is amongst on of the few vendors that is heading towards user safety. Super T is also one of the few vendors that has gained enough of my confidence for me to place a pre-order, as I would normally allow the bugs to be worked out first. IMHO there are far too many devices out there that do not perform as expected.

My lizard for example as performed flawlessly in all combinations without the need to "jury rig" anything. That is why I purchase what I purchase, when I purchase. ;):D

:D Agreed :D
If it comes from Super T it will be, without a doubt, top notch in quality and performance. Which is why I bought the P16 and P18 sight unseen.

switched of course that's only a question that david could answer...
just saying that I know what you're talking about...the adapter on my S6 has that positive end terminal pin that should allow for the use of a flat top designed battery but I don't own a flat top 14500 to try it out...perhaps someone with one of the current precise could also take kind of a 3/4 profile photo of the inside of the atty adapter connection end...but on my S6 it's a brass pin that extends all the way through the adapter and sticks out about 1mm on the inside, dead center for contact to the positive terminal.
but these being mechanical models I wouldn't forcast too much change on the internals of the adapter from one model to the next to the next...
Long story short...you could could always send a note to david and ask that that pin be left a little bit longer for use with the flat top designed batteries on yours
