Depends on what you smoked. About 24mg of nic in a pack of full-flavor cigarettes. The ejuice I smoke is 18mg/ml so at your rate, thats more nic then you had when smoking. It's hard to choose what nic strength to use just by how much you had when smoking. Try out 12mg juice first, or even 6, and go up until you are satisfied.

Average tends to fall around 3-5ml per day as stated above.

What it equates to in analog equivalence is really rather irrelevant. Vape until your cravings have subsided (just dont OD on nic!! lol) and then have a break. When cravings hit you again vape some more.

In the beginning many consume WAY more than they do once they settle in. Now that I am past all of the worst with the cigarette cravings and my nic level is 6- I can go hours and not even think of a vape. It isnt the same fiendish feeling..like wanting to climb the walls trying to get to smoke break or through a long flight.

As opposed to an equivalent balance think of it as a vape what you need to not smoke balance.

The biggest factor to consider, how many catalyzing chemicals are in cigarettes? There is no set answer. You can know the nicotine content all you want, but you don't know all the chemicals involved with them. I've heard shops say 1mL is equal to a pack.. that's pretty ridiculous. Especially since they're salesmen, they should be advertising the hell out of all the chemicals involved with tobacco.

If you grew your own tobacco, you'd still be smoking MAOIs.

I'm down to a couple of ml per day now, from about 5ml when I started. I didn't actually try for this, it just sorta happened. I started at 18mg/ml. I did make an effort to drop the nic levels and I'm down to 0 nic for the most part (I treat myself on occasion to some 6mg/ml and I don't feel a bit guilty about it lol)

Oh, I was a PAD of Light 100's for 25 years

Yeah, the iclear 16 seems to go through 1ml in about 20 mins. No way I'd buy 1ml is equal to a pack of analogs!

One of the other reasons it's difficult to equate cigs to liquid, is that there are additives to cigarettes which potentiate the nicotine and increase uptake.

Including:
Ammonium is one which freebases the nicotine to make it absorb easier. Acetaldehyde is created when sugars are burned (which are added to cigs) which creates a synergistic effect in combination with nicotine, research on mice showed mice became more addicted to the combination than nicotine alone, and e cigs don't reach a high enough temperature to burn sugar(which is good, acetaldehyde causes cancer). Alone it was also found to have a similar effect to nicotine. Levulinic acid is also added to cigarettes and in studies resulted in an increase 20-50% uptake of nicotine than without it. Cocoa and theobromine are added which open the lungs airways to provide more absorption and have minor nicotine like effects as well. Glycyrrhizin is another additive which opens up the airways. Also, additional pyridine is added which is a tobacco alkaloid which similar effects of nicotine. http://www.ash.org.uk/files/documents/ASH_623.pdf

So with that being said, it's difficult to really say, as there are many factors in cigarettes besides the nicotine.

New to vaping but... I was a PAD red smoker for 25 plus years. I now vape 1.5 to 2 ml a day with no withdrawals or OD. It's only been two weeks and I use a "mini" so that might make a difference. I was panicked at first thinking this is so much fun not having to go outside and freeze my rear off to smoke, I might overdose! But, nope! Still alive and not smoking! Yay!
I just smoke for a few minutes and then put my eroll back in the pcc. Just like I would put my pack away if I was smoking a cigarette. Works for me. Good luck!

This may be (another) stupid newb question. But is there a comparison of mls of e-juice to analogs? I seem to be going through quite a few mls a day.

I was a PAD smoker.

Not a good comparison, no.

I'm participating in a study right now and tracked my use runs around 6ml a day. I was a 2 PAD smoker. However, in my time around ECF, I've run into people who had left smoking habits similar to mine whose vaping habits were utterly different. Ran into one guy who smoked a brand similar to mine, 2 PAD who went up on nic in his vape while I went down. I vape around 12mg (with 6-9 being common), he was in the 24 to 36 range with gusts to 48 (which made my eyes bug out).

Short of actual blood tests, nobody can come up with a good equivalence. I've seen some tests that suggest about half the nic is "available" in the vapor (such as one ml of 24mg juice produces 12mg of nic in the vapor it produces). Past that... nobody's sure. We know the rate of absorption is different between vaping and inhaling smoke into the lungs (the latter is faster and more nic is picked up). But how much? Dunno. Unless there are tests out there I haven't read about yet.

Basically, though, I wouldn't worry about it.

My understanding of this whole thing (and I've read a lot) is smokers get used to having some level of nic circulating in their bloodstreams. Whatever level that is, you seek to maintain it. You don't consciously work at it. You develop habits such that when your nic level falls, you reach for a cig. Or if you can't have one, you start having "nicotine fits". You know the drill.

Vaping is a whole other kind of "delivery system" and you have to develop all new habits to hit and maintain the level of nic you're used to. I suspect people notice their vaping because it's a change. Smoking becomes second nature and you don't think about it, you just do it. Change things (as you do in vaping) and you're more aware of it. At least at first. I'm pushing a year now and my vaping is becoming "second nature" almost as much as my smoking was. Trying to track my juice usage took some paying attention. I had fallen into habits and routines and couldn't tell you how much I used per day. I just... vaped.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about "numbers" so much as how you feel. Too much nic causes things like insomnia, heart palpitations, headaches, so on. That's a big time signal to back off your nic level. Short of that, your body is going to seek to hit that level of nicotine you're used to having from your days of smoking and it'll just sort of happen.

i go through less than 1 ml a day of 12mg. if i fill my tank, it lasts me at least 2 days and i was a pack a day smoker.

You're a cheap date!! :D

Kidding- the average is probably around 3-5 mg a day. A lot depends on device - mini's aren't as efficient, new users aren't as efficient at vaping. High voltage/tanks use more liquid. Using low mg. nicotine, you'll probably vape more. Lots of variables.
