1st attempt to vape in public place........

California is really bad anyways, I moved here from Indiana for my girlfriend who missed her family. Before I stopped smoking analogs I would get crap looks from people when I smoked walking from the car to the store.... outside.

Alot of .... retentive health nuts in California.

Besides rule of thumb should be, if you can't smoke cigarettes there then don't vape. You are only asking for trouble when you do. No owner, even one who understands it want's to deal with other customers complaining about someone smoking over there, not worth the hassle.

Interesting counterpoint about using one that does NOT look like a cigarette. People are less likely to think you are smoking. I don't know, I guess I shouldn't be afraid to start vaping out in public. I just got so used to being 'condemned for being a filthy smoker' (get out your torches and pitchforks!!) that it's now second nature to hide my vaping as well.

I just wan't to thank the OP for asking ahead of time. While some feel they shouldn't have to ask because it's "Not Smoking", I find it common since that even though it is not smoking everyone who does not know about vaping will assume it's smoking. If you didn't smoke there before you shouldn't take it upon yourself to assume you can vape there now. Just my 2cents though. IMO the last thing vapers need is the news running daily stories about people being kicked out of non smoking area's because they are hard headed. Let's give it time and show that we are adults!

We have to be a little understanding of the delimma some feel our vaping may cause in their establishment. You've planted the seed of education with them... give it time to grow.

I personally never vape where I wouldn't have smoked in the past. Yes, there's no second hand smoke, etc... but there's still a huge lack of knowledge out there.

I love vaping! I know the benefits, etc, etc. But if I was a restaurant owner, I would never allow it in my restaurant...not at this time. Even after e-cigs and vaping becomes household words, I probably would not allow it in my restaurant.

Why? Because vapor has a smell! It's true that you eat w/ your eyes and nose as well as your mouth, and I can see something like atomic cinnacide vapor wreaking havoc with other customer's enjoyment of their food (I'm a vaper but personally cannot take the smell of AC...sorry Geoffe!)

So you folks who vape on a don't ask basis, I hope you're not doing it just to rattle your sabers in the name of "rights." If you didn't smoke there before, why do NEED to vape there now? The vaping community does not need confrontation and controversy and bad press at this time.

So please vape with class, without disrespecting other people.

I've had excellent luck in "stealth vaping" in malls, libraries and even the post office. I've also done it at work (where there is ZERO tolerance towards smoking), though I use a battery without an LED in those circumstances.

I draw the line at restaurants, because people get pretty finicky about their food, and I would hate to ruin someone's day if they came in to a restaurant specifically because it was a nicotine free zone. I'm not bashing anyone who's done it, it's just my opinion; I feel that if we are considerate about our strange and new activity, we are far more likely to be readily accepted.

I will say this much: even on the few times that I've been confronted, most people's reactions turn from disgust to a casual curiosity, and we part ways on good terms. Try getting that reaction from an analog!!

I vaped without asking (thinking), and ended up with three people's lips on my e-cig trying it out. First people wanted to look at it; then hold it; then "can I try it?" I started saying 'no'. It's strange because with regular cigarettes, people bum them, it's a social occasion. But I don't want to share an e-cig!

Okay, no kidding, one freakin NON-SMOKER wanted to smoke my e-cig. I said it had nicotine so no, but the thing definitely generated attention.

(Next time, no batts with a Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer LED on the end. That light got more attention than anything else.)

One day someone who had been watching me and flashing dirty looks at me (on a bus stop, yet!) asked in a really miffed way, "What IS that thing?!?" I said, "Nothing for you to worry about. I'm from the future."

I haven't tried at all yet. I think there's not enough information out there. I've only vaped in my car and even then I get nervous when I pass a cop, because I wonder, "do they know what this is"? Or is this officer going to pull me over because he thinks I'm smoking crack or something? LOL. I read in another thread that someone spent 36 hours in jail for it, and others have been pulled over. For that reason, my next battery will be one that looks the most like a real cigarette

I guess now the prohibitionists will have to invent an "eJuice analyzer" so that they can make sure what you're vaping is legal, and not some liquefied illegal substance. Especially in states that have legal "herbal" prescriptions.

I admit I am a little shy in public when I vape but I do it anyway just really subtle about it...as in I hide the vapor I exhale...found out one of the biggest Pain in the You know what non-smokers for the last 3 mos at work thought I was chewing on my pen all this time...the encourages me a little but still embracing the motto what they don't know won't hurt them, so I am with the "Don't ask, don't tell" crowd

Here in San Antonio, the Smoking Everywhere ecig is marketed in all the malls as "Smoke To Live." The salesman who peddles the overpriced, lousy quality product is constantly vaping in the mall to attract customers.

Although I have no use for the Smoking Everywhere product, their presence in the malls makes it easy to enjoy my ecig while walking around shopping. Also, I must give the guy credit. It was his sales pitch that first introduced me to ecigs, though I didn't buy from him.

I think the overpriced mall variety was what kept me from going digital for as long as I did...now everytime I place an order thru V4L I always buy a little extra of something to make starter kits for my still smoking friends...that is how I finally quit analog...a free kit from a friend and I was sold

I'm kinda new to vaping, but I vaped in a restaurant/bar and also at the movie theatre and nobody said anything. I've got a black 510 with a blue LED. I don't really go about showing it off or anything but alot of people have been asking questions about it. It's mostly been, "Hey, I saw those on T.V.! Do they work?" or "That's that fake cigarette thing!" Anyway, first post, kinda rambling, so I'm gonna stop it here. Happy Vaping! lol
