My very 1st attempt at a new coil on a Evod was a disaster. I don't know what I'm doing.

I was just trying to replicate a stock coil/head by using 3mm silica & 32 Kanthal. I did 5 wraps & it came out to .9 ohms.
It's on a Vamo so that wont work. I'm shooting for 1.8 ohms or somewhere close.

What should I do to get there?

Thanks for any help.

Try adding more wraps...I am away from my notes...but try 3 or 4 more wraps and see if that does not increase the resistance. Go from there. Good luck and keep us posted.

One other thing...we use a jig to wrap (DZ) and peaches and cream cotton yarn for a wick. Separate the yarn and use two strands as the wick and then the remaining two strands placed on top of wick as a flavor wick. PM me if you need anymore help!

I wonder how many wraps it will take to get a 1.8 -2.0 ohm coil. Has anybody else tried to get the replica of the stock coil.
Then there's micro coils. I doubt that would work for me since my coil wrapping ability is equal or less than that of a 3yr old.
The wire is so springy I cant get it to go where I want. Total loser.

Thanks for the replies so far. Keep em' coming. Thanks.

Well the good news is that you came close and built one that isn't shorted out. Add a few more wraps and you'll probably get the resistance that you want.

You are on the right track! Sounds to me like you actually have a short in your coil. Be sure that your coil isn't touching the sides of the metal cup. Take it apart and try again, or fiddle with the coil before giving up. I've done the EXACT build that you are describing and get about 1.7 Ohms every time. I've moved on to wrapping 32 gauge on a 1/16 drill bit, then threading a small strand of organic cotton ball through the coil after I check the ohms and do a few pulses to check that the coil is heating up evenly. Hope this helps!

Also, not sure if you've checked out this PBusardo video yet, but he rebuilds an Evod head at the end of the video. A PBusardo Review All About The EVOD - Includes Recoiling - YouTube, if you torch the wire before you wrap your coils, it will be way less springy. I just use a lighter and let it glow and move the glow through the wire. Really helps with the springiness of the kanthal.

Stock coils use "no resistance" wire legs which keeps the resistance in the coil only. More wraps or 34-36 gauge wire would help, or get a "zapper" (wire welder) and NR wire to replicate the stock setup.

Good luck! :vapor:

:2c:

Actually BCCs like the Evod and ARO don't use NR wire a lot of other types of toppers do but these don't.
