Actually BCCs like the Evod and ARO don't use NR wire a lot of other types of toppers do but these don't.

I actually pulled out a stock coil head from a Protank 2 recently and it did have NR wire welded to the Kanthal. I was like, what the heck, and then I realized what I was looking at. Teeny tiny weld. Just sayin'.

tricks I use when doing a regular coil for protank/evod

I use 32 gauge Kanthal and 3mm silica

Get a large paperclip and unbend it so you have a long straight part. Hold the paperclip along with your silica and wrap around BOTH together. That makes sure you do not wrap too tightly and choke off your wicking.

Leave the clip in it while you place the coil in the head and lock down the legs. Make sure you wires are not touch the metal casing at the sides of the coil and make sure the legs are not crossed inside. you can take a small toothpick and even out the coils once they legs are locked down.

SLide out the paperclip. Add flavor wicks if desired. Stick it on an ohms meter or vamo to check it.

I find 5/6 wraps puts me easily in the 1.8-2 ohm range

Of course I don't have an Android phone.
Would heating up the wire first help with the springiness. All I have is 32 Kanthal so I'm stuck using that.
It's good to "torch" kanthal to relieve "spring".....A Zippo will work....or one of the pencil-type butane torches is even better,IMHO...
Super-X has some very good videos on coil building...."must" viewing for those just getting started rebuilding.....
