Even 2 ohms is too much of a push if it is truly a standard 180 mAh 510 battery.

Stock 510 runs at 3.2V, more or less.

3.2V/2 ohms = 1.6amps. 1.6A/0.180 Ah = 9C, you are trying to draw a large multiple of the battery capacity.

Unless those stock batteries are full IMR, 9C is likely going to be well above the battery spec.

Specs are there for a reason, the safe operating range. Decent engineering designs have margin, but you don't want to completely ignore the stated design criteria. Real world, you likely won't be able to source that much current, so you'll see sag, but it's only happening because you're stressing the heck out of the little battery.

With luck you end up with just an early, but passive, PV failure, but I prefer not to push my luck when I can use a proper size battery for the power I want.

Are most ratings given just a nominal figure due to mass production or are some manufacturers (IkanVape, etc.) more precise?

Nothing I have matches the number (or even the tolerance) given in the product description and I find the Star Dust (due to no solder?) are especially high on a meter. How does the product description match an ohm meter (corrected for lead resistance, of course)?

3 ohms is the classic value for a 3.7 - 3.8v kr808. If you like cooler vaping you can bump up towards 3.3 ohms, for warmer vaping drop towards 2.5 ohms. With 1000mAh, you can drop down as low as around 1.9 ohms and stay at less than 2 amp (2C in this case) draw.

I never used stock 510, too cool for me.

C is the draw rate on a batt, where less than/equal to 4C is the "magic number".
C =( (V/Ω)* 1000 )/Batt mAh or (current*1000)/Batt mAh

e.g. 500mAh Batt / 500mA Draw = 1C : should last 1 hr

So, on a 380 mAh V2 stick batt, 2.0Ω@3.7v = 6.85 watts, 1.85 mA = 4.87C (potentially dangerous draw rate good chance to permanently damage the battery)

Here's a good link for info:WHAT V with WHAT mAh? carto/atty to battery info

from the page that link goes to it says, "A good friend here at little shop of vapors, Jason IRL and mendnwngs at ecf , put together this information regarding ohms, volts, resistances, and the variables that determine which atomizer or cartomizer is appropriate for which battery at what voltage." Maybe mendnwngs could explain where the 4C came from

Anyone know if a 510 passthrough is any different (higher mAh)? Been using LR 306s on one for the last couple weeks and so far ok but would hate to kill it.

If it is a straight pass-through (ie. no battery) then don't worry about shortening the life of the battery.

If it is a pass-through battery (ie. will work without being plugged in) and you can't find the mah, then I guess, as a last resort, you could estimate the mah by how many hours it works at fairly constant use.

Since the rule of thumb is each 100 mah gives approximately 1 hour of use, if it lasts for about 8 hours (maybe 6 hours if you are using LR?) or more with regular use there should be no problem.

Any LR will shorten the time between charges, since you are using more power. The damage referred to is the lessening, over time, of the battery's ability to hold a charge, requiring more frequent charging (which eventually happens to any battery).

...Just checking in..

I'll be back (probably tomorrow) to get in here and help where I can.. Unfortunately, I'm in the midst of traveling for work. Coming home to California (woohoo!) after a stint in Milwaukee, then New Orleans (WooHoo!!)

Finally just got home a few minutes ago (literally) and have some figurative, and literal housekeeping to take care of tonight. Tomorrow, I'm back in here, and see if I cant help explain "C" rating, and develop a slightly more user friendly excel calculator.

Regardless, I'm here to help, but tonight I just need to take care of business..

Thank you for understanding :)

(P.S.. FWIW, I've taken my mod through maybe a dozen airports now.. Never gotten so much as a question about it.. Seems like the TSA is aware of e-cigs, and has no issue with them.. Good to know.. :) )
