Only Big tobacco and Big Pharma want e-cig regulation
Only Big Tobacco and Big Pharma want e-cig regulation | Daily Maverick

“[Electronic cigarettes] are nicotine delivery devices intended to be used like a cigarette. What happens to someone who stops inhaling the tars of cigarettes and inhales only nicotine? We don't know. There is at least the potential for harm.”
So says Dr Norman Edelman, chief medical officer of the American Lung Association, quoted in an online medical magazine. Sound plausible? I thought not.

,.. The Medicines Control Council, the Pharmacy Council, the Food & Drug Administration, the European Commission and the World Health Organisation can go swivel. They should stop trying to protect Big tobacco and Big Pharma and start caring about public health. If they were consistent, they’d hand out e-cigarettes like condoms....

- good one! and good links too

Excellent!

If governments were consistent, they’d hand e-cigarettes out like condoms.

I've been arguing for a long time, especially in response to vape-tax proposals, that governments have this all backwards: they should not be attempting to tax these life-saving devices. Rather, vape gear and e-liquid should be subsidized using tobacco tax money (and TM$A in the US), as well as covered by medical insurance.

"To make over-the-counter access to nicotine replacement therapy more easily available, the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) last year removed restrictions on patches, gum, inhalers, mouth sprays and lozenges, noting in particular that these products “do not appear to have significant potential for abuse or dependence.”"

...but vaping is different!! And even a 'gateway'!!

And I like he include this observation which was true from the start (or at least 'my' start in 2009).

"Most vendors voluntarily include the right health warnings and safety precautions related to nicotine."

A different vision of those who look at mom&pops stores as 'avenues of potential harm' in an unregulated market...

I liken it to falling from a 12 inch footstool versus a 100 foot cliff. I might get a bruise from the former but the latter will surely do me in. And as far as "potential harm" goes... I risk my life every day just eating Mrs. Kodiak's cooking. (god bless my gal's tenacity though).

Jezus H. Christ. Seriously? This "We don't know" crap again? If only there existed a few million brave and selfless test subjects to try these evil e-cigs just to quell the good Doctor's concerns.

I'll go first. Wish me luck!

Yet another excellent article in favor!

My favorite quote:

"......makers of e-cigarettes are not allowed to advertise them for their greatest feature. Well I sure can, and I do. E-cigarettes are amazing. They make it easy to quit smoking. Tell your friends. Tell everyone. And if the law says you can’t buy them without a prescription, smuggle the things. The law is an a*s*s*.
Now would someone please come and arrest me for whatever laws I broke to quit smoking?"

This so-called 'debate' about the benefits and dangers of e-cigs has really exposed the health czars world-wide for what they really are: mostly government and big-business employed or sponsored health nazis that rely on the flow of funds to float their pompous boats. They are tremendously afraid now that the benefits of e-cigs are clearly out in the open for all to see.

absolutely! :thumb:

By the way, it is always a good idea to share such positive articles on social networks. In vaping groups and yes, also to our non-smoking and non-vaping friends and contacts. The ANTZ may have the money. And they can buy influence and call themselves "experts" although they have no idea about the subject. Except that it digs into their fat profits and threatens their cushy jobs and fat paychecks for doing nothing. But we the people are no longer mute subjects cowering before our omnimpotent rulers. We can spread our knowledge by word of mouth, to those around us. And believe me, I know a lot of people who do just that :sneaky:
