I started vaping about 2 months ago. As a 1 1/2 - 2 PAD smoker for over 30 years I was ready to try anything. No luck with the patch, gum, lozenges, welbutrin, you name it. I really liked smoking! After the first week of vaping I was down to around 12 analogs a day. Wow somethings up here, didn't work at it just vaped and had a smoke when the urge really hit. I started keeping track on a calender and was down to 6-7 a day. Yesterday I finished my last pack and just didn't go buy another. No panic, no soul searching, simply just didn't go to the store! Now 24 hours later still no smokes and I'm still here!
On to day 2!

Congrats, man!

Here's an important point: It works differently for different people.

If I'd seen your post three weeks ago (before I started vaping) , I would have been very encouraged. I didn't think there was anything that could make me give up that nasty stinkin' habit.

But for me, it was WAY easier. After 40 years on analogs, I've had exactly one since I started my vaping. I still can't believe it.

The bottom line is that you've done it.

Thanks guys. I think the biggest thing for me was the total lack of any pressure. I didn't enter into this with any feeling that I "had" to quit. Just read a bit on this forum and others and decided I'd try vaping. If I really wanted a smoke I had one, no guilt, no feelings of failure. After trying a bunch of different juice flavors and venders I found a few I enjoyed and just kept on vaping. Read through pages and pages here and saw all the support everyone was getting and giving and really appreciated the attitudes and caring of the folks here. This is a great place and has had such an impact on so many people, I hope you all give yourselves credit for what your doing! Thanks!

Day 3 down! This one was a little tougher. No big "gotta have a smoke" moments but kind a like an underlying urge that would sneak up at times. Got my morning coffee at on the way to work and resisted the temptation to pick up a pack. Grabbed the Riva instead. I always keep a couple of flavors in 2 Riva's and a couple of Volts as a backup. Not taking any chances at this point! Got to remember to drink more water though.
On to day 4.

Go Wayne go! I think my experience quitting was similar to yours in that I didn't start vaping with the intention of quitting smoking. Oh I hoped it would lead to quitting, but by no means did I order my ecig planning to quit cold turkey. It was gadgety and interesting, but by crikey smoking was an enjoyable habit.

Sooner or later you might give into temptation and light up another analog. If you're used to vaping, the sensation of the analog's accelerants forcing the nicotine into your brain will feel alien and dangerous. You'll frown at the ashy taste in your mouth, and again you'll feel self conscious about the offensive smell on your clothes and on your breath. And after a few months you'll be able to smell secondhand smoke from a hundred yards away. It'll be unpleasant to smell, but at the same time satisfying to know that you will no longer be tempted. Go ahead and have a smoke if you really want one. You might find that you would rather be vaping, and you'll snuff out your cigarette after only a couple of drags.

I think I've had maybe a half a pack of smokes since I started vaping last July, but none since September or so. I'd just rather puff on German chocolate cake or strawberry buttercreme cupcake than ash. And it took almost no willpower.

I hear you there. I've become very fond of a blueberry vape that's a combination of two vendors juices. That and RY4 are my all day vapes.
Day 4 down! Felt really good today. Very pleased with my progress and not to much in the way of challenges. Been vaping a little heavier but as all of my juices are 12-16mg of nic I pretty happy. Starting to really believe this is working and for someone who really believed the cigs would be with me until the end this is AWESOME! I find myself getting a much deeper sleep now although I did have a couple of restless nights. I'm looking forward to being able to make the one week mark. that will be the first milestone for me! Thanks all for your support!

Well here we are. Day 5 draws to a close. A little tougher today, kind off a nagging urge on and off all day but I resisted and drove on by the local convenience store where I used to buy my smokes. The very fact that I was able to do that is testimony that vaping is working to keep the demons under control. I recognize the triggers that really set me up and with a little push (and a vape) I work on through them. Still seems a little unbelievable that I've gotten this far after the many failed attempts in the past. Moving forward one day at a time!

Very nice! Just out of curiosity, what sort of device are you vaping on?

I started out with a couple of Volts from Smokeless Image. I really liked the Volt and the feel was close to an analog. After a couple of weeks I added a pair of Riva's which have become my everyday PVs. I carry the Volt's as a backup and when I need something small to stash in a pocket. I still like them but they can't match the vape production of the Riva's. I typically use either Boge cartomizers or a mixed lot of clearo's if I know I can keep the riva more or less upright to prevent leaks.

You're doing great! I don't know what flavors of juice you're using, but I kept a carto of menthol tobacco handy for when the urge for a cig hit. I haven't used that flavor for months now, but it seemed to get me over the hump when the urge hit.

I've been trying all kinds of juices. I have been primarily carrying an RY4 mix of juice from two suppliers and a blueberry mix again of two supplier's juices. I have collected a small hoard from trying different vendors/flavors and have found to many with a perfume under-taste that I find unpleasant. I am letting them steep for a few weeks and will try them again.

Not really anything to awful. I think because I cut down on the smokes before quitting that the withdrawal was much less pronounced. A few headaches off and on, of course coughing up the crap in my lungs, a bit unfocused one day but nothing like when I tried to quit in the past. Still getting occasional urges but other than the first thing in the morning the others seem less pronounced and less frequent. Wish I'd know about these things years ago! Thanks to everyone who has supported me, It has really been helpful to share my progress here.

Great job wayneh. Have you started experiencing any withdrawal symptoms?
