I'm so glad you said that. As I mentioned in my intro, my wife considers herself to be a smoker. End of sentence. In her words, "I'm not going to quit smoking... I'm just going to try to quit smoking cigarettes, but I fully intend on vaping forever, if nothing else."

Honestly, I'm cool with that. And I don't have to tell you vaping is really neat! I'm intrigued.

Let me tell you than, My plan when I saw electronic cigarettes, was not to quit cigarettes. I was intensly advocating cigarettes as I am now vaping. I loved smoking. I loved the smell of the ash tray. I had thought I would wake up and smoke my morning cigarettes with black tea and after this ceremony I would vape when I crawled for cigarettes, this way I would decrease the number of the cigarettes I smoked. I had not any intention of quitting.
I am afraid I did not smoke morning cigarettes anymore I vaped with black tea. (Only I tried to use some cheap liquid for the reason of ignorance so I crawled for nicotine and smoked several cigarettes. But vaping was better than smoking so I went to buy genuine liquids the same day after finding Turkish e-cig forum and from that time on I never smoked. Nor I can bear the smell and taste of cigarettes anymore.

Congrats PDub! I'm a noob as well with a smoking history similar to your wife's, only I'm a lot older and I'm betting my legs are a lot hairier too.;) A bit over a couple of weeks of vaping in and I lost the 'itch' for tobacco after the second day. The difference is I still have the last pack of tobacco (from a 2 pack purchase) with the cellophane intact. I keep that pack to prove to myself that I don't need or even want tobacco any more.

I have yet to try any but have read/watched a lot of reviews that seem to praise Halo Juice a great deal. While a bit pricy, compared to tobacco it's still dirt cheap. You may wish to look at what Halo has to offer. I don't 'know', just saying.

I'll just add that my lungs already feel better so great rewards are not very far away.

While you are picking out juices try something non-tobbacco sometime.

I don't know if this is true for everyone but there have been times that I tried something I didn't think I would like based on the description and it was great. There have also been times where something sounded great and it was not so great.

You taste buds will change over the next month and tastes will be different than they used to be. My taste is much more sensitive now being off of analogs. Food tastes better and my food tastes have changed. I started out with nothing but tobbacco flavors and moved way from it as my tastes changed however there are people out here that really like the tobbacco flavors.

I can certainly relate. Sounds like I might have to try some turkish blends. Sounds good!

I will most assuredly look into Halo. The whole saving money thing tends to reduce my hesitancy to spend.

And that itch to smoke you mention? Same here. For both of us. I was worried for my wife, especially. But many times everyday she comments on how she's amazed at how well it's working for her so far. If vaping wasn't so darn neat by itself who's to say how successful most of us would be.

This just reminded me of yet another benefit to quitting that's oft overlooked for obvious reasons. My wife is a singer... or at least she used to be as she would put it. Just the other day she observed that her usual car-drive sing-a-long performance resulted in much smoother and easier notes. She claims her range is noticably recovering. That's a huge 'pro' for her. So far no 'cons' other than being satisfied with only one PV. But I wouldn't consider that a 'con.'

By the way, where do I get me on of dem neat banners that shows how much money I've saved, etc. I know I saw a sticky somewhere. Maybe I should start a new thread? I'll keep searching.

Just click on one you like and fill in your stats. I'm not sure how many posts you have to have before you can get a signature but if you go to your profile/settings, there should be an "edit signature" on the left and you can C&P the banner there.

Howdy all,

I felt compelled to tell my story so I decided to register on this website. My wife and I are were pack-a-day smokers. The only problem was my wife is one of those hard-core smokers that insisted she would never want to, much less consider quitting smoking. Cigarettes are more than a "crutch" for her. She identifies herself as a smoker, mostly due to her starting at such an usually young age combined with other reasons I shouldn't mention without her permission.

Several days ago, I started looking into the e-cig thing. Fortunately, I have a friend that (I assume) spent some time on this website because he showed me what I now am guessing must have been some APV set-up (as opposed to those cheap, disposable analog look-a-likes that internet search terms like "best e-cig," tends to shove in your face). Almost the same day, my wife had a co-worker tell her about what, I'm guessing, was a standard newbie set-up consisting of an ego style batt, etc. The seeds were planted...

So I found the closest b&m vapor supply store near me and ended up walking out with an Ego Twist with an iclear and some tobacco flavored ejuice. My wife, being one of those people that absolutely dreads the mere suggestion of doing any internet research about anything was more than happy to take my new starter kit off my hands and, as you might have guessed, I was more than happy to let her. Of course, I went back the next day and repeated that shopping experience for myself.

We both still had some analogs left and concluded we should just finish them off so as to take the full plunge instead of saving them in case we get an undeniable urge as was recommended to us by the sales dude. As a result, we both started our new journey together just the other day on Halloween.

I was worried she might regress so I kept a very close eye on her while not letting her think I suspected anything. I also felt it was highly valuable to tell her I fully supported her even if she couldn't keep at it, while tactfully planting the seeds of the threat of an imminent, yet slow and painful cigarette related death! A smattering of implied desperation to not witness such an occurrence was also helpful.

I fully expected her to not succeed. She, like so many others, tried everything in the cosmos to quit. Patches, prescriptions, hypnosis... nothing worked. But I waited.... and by day two I got the most amazing phone call from her. She rambled on and on about how she needs to be sure she never runs out of juice and how she can she this working for her... it was apparent she was vocalizing the conflicts that were being resolved in her head. It was beautiful!

Now, here I am perusing this website with no end in sight as to the wealth of knowledge that's available. For that, I must extend to all of you my heartfelt thanks! Consequently, just 4 days in and I'm already planning out my next set-up (Provari and IBtanked for those curious). Wife says I might have to wait till Christmas, though. :glare:

My wish is that other smokers discover the surprisingly effective quitting method of e-cigs. I've already found the opportunity to mention this website to three people so it's a start. My wife said she's had two smokers ask her about it because she still goes outside to smoke, toot.

My best to all of you. And immense thanks to those of you that I see constantly replying to [the same] questions over and over in such a friendly and patient manner when you could simply say, "use the search function, idiot." The last thing a smoker trying to quit needs is getting the brush-off or cold shoulder!!

Hello and welcome to ecf.

Tell your wife, I was just like her. Tried everything known to man and nothing worked. Thought I too would have a horrible ending to the miserable life I had as a smoker.

Enjoyed the read and don't ever worry about asking questions. No questions if dumb. All are relevant. I still am excited when I can help someone start with ecigs. The look on their faces when they realized 'hey, this CAN WORK for me. Priceless.

Just in case no one else has mentioned(or you have yet to read), please increase you liquid intake. Vaping will dry you out. Keep a glass of your favorite liquid beside you when you vape and just sip on it. Dehydration is no joke and these can and will dry you out.

Good luck to the both of you. Kick you shoes off and stay awhile..

:)

Ya' know?... I have had tons of questions, but the search function has always given the answers. And because this is such a massive community those answers have been thoroughly varied. But there is one question y'all can't answer for me; what flavor ejuice do I like. I doubt I'll ever care for anything too sweet. I enjoy the RY4 variant I'm currently using from the b&m store I bought my gear from so I'll try other tobacco flavors. I've always loved smoking a pipe so I'll certainly try some of those recommendations others are giving. I'm also a huge coffee lover so I'm curious to try to of those or maybe a mild nutty flavor.

Anything that would pair well with my morning cup of joe is welcome! I'm also hoping to find a strong tobacco flavor or similar to complement my booze! :toast:

A fab place for tobacco flavors is backwoodsbrew.net(I think it is .net) I no longer vape tobacco flavors, but when I did nothing could beat their applewood flavor. It was really good. Took a little bit of time to age(or steep) because he makes your order fresh, but it is well worth it.

:)

Welcome PDub! Congrats to you and your wife! I have friends who were hardcore smokers before who tried to quit several times in the past but ended up going back to smoking, then they discovered vaping and they can't dream of going back to smoking cigarettes again. The amount of nicotine that they take in also lessened over time due to vaping, so I don't personally know you but I'm excited for this similar, healthier journey you're taking too!:D

PDub, a hearty congratulations to you and your wife. I quit analogs on Aug 26th of this year. I was a 30+ years smoker. I'm also a singer (not pro) and I can tell you that my voice improved a great deal within 6 to 8 weeks of quitting. I'm hitting higher notes than I ever have and with less strain than before. I'm now 2 notes short of 3 octaves. Like her, I also sing-a-long in the car to and fro from work and I'm amazed at the ease with which I can take on previously difficult passages. So your wife can look forward to some rewarding changes in her vocal prowess.

I had tried cartos a couple of years ago and did not like them so I never quit analogs. A few months ago, I looked into e-cigs again and bought a tank-based system and juices from Halo. With my first vape I decided I don't care for analogs anymore and I've never looked back; never missed them either. What I miss is going out to the garage - the only place in the house that I was allowed to smoke (self-imposed). So, every once in a while I will sit on the steps of my garage and vape. :)

Another member mentioned that he's heard that people like Halo juices. I can attest to their quality and taste. They are expensive but until you start making your own, I suggest that you try Halo juices, even if you get a bottle or two for special occasions. I'm sure you and your wife will love them.

Again, congratulations to both of you.

See this is what I mean...I was shy and it took me forever to say "hi". In one afternoon you've met the neighbors, had a housewarming, and are now getting to know the people on the next street over :D but seriously...

I can't tell you what flavors you'll like...that is true...but I can give you one last piece of advice. Try everything. There's a small vendor on here, they max out at 18mg but will go higher for very special request, called nicoticket. They're not related to me, just one of my favorite small time juice shops. When it comes to flavors I've found the longer I vape the more my mood changes for what I like but I keep this in mind. The hardest time for me not to smoke is after food or in the car. I never had a cigarette till after I had gotten ready and had stopped at the 7-11 up the street for morning coffee and wanted to smoke the most after a big meal. And you will find as time goes on as you vape more and smoke less your taste buds will change and you won't want that cigarette taste as much. Also, any good juice mixer will tell you tobacco flavors are the biggest pain in the rear because it is impossible to come up with a flavor that simulates the taste of dried burning shredded leaves and paper coated in thousands of chemicals. The flavors we come up with are closer to that "fresh pack" or "just unwrapped" smell than the actual taste of a burning cigarette. And as time goes on you'll find that there are so many other great flavors that burning smoke won't be the top of your list.

That being said, try what you can...in the begging vaping isn't cheaper than smoking really. You will save money in the long run, but the initial cost of hardware and the first few weeks of experimenting with juices is gonna hurt the pocket book a bit so you might as well go all out a bit and get it out of the way. I would sugguest finding a tobacco like flavor to start...RY4 is a classic, it is sweeter and there are so many variations of it now, like a few actress's real hair color, it's been changed and "improved" so many times we're not sure what the original RY4 flavor tastes like anymore. :vapor: But on top of that try and find a fruit flavor, like grape or strawberry, or a mix for when you need a fruit to balance your meal or drink. Try to find a sweeter or richer flavor like vanilla custard or cheesecake or chocolate peanut butter cup for your morning coffee...there are coffee flavors out there too but next to tabacco flavors they are the hardest to blend so don't be discouraged if you try a couple you don't like at first...there is one out there for you if you want it. and then try and find a minty or a crisp flavor that has "Koolada" added to it, not necessarily a menthol, but a kool or a mint. Sometimes PG can irratate your throat at first even if you don't have an alergy to it and you need to drink plenty of water because it will dehydrate your throat by nature anyways. The mint or kool flavors are both refreshing, go good with most drinks (kid and adult kinds,) and are easier on your throat if it's scratchy IMHO. This way you have a few, three or four, basic flavors to rotate and stick with while you try other flavors as your budget allows or you order them and you don't like one you still have the others. So when one gets boring you have a different one to rotate too...keep things interesting. OK, I'm done, you're on your own to go play now. Good luck once again.

And as always, Happy Vaping! :toast:
