2 Questions from a Newbie. Upgrade from itaste vv and protank 3 & rebuild Cartomizer myself ?

Hi everyone, pretty new to the whole vaping and ECF Board.
I bought a itaste VV and a Kanger Tech Protank 3
I really enjoy it so much so that I bought my gf the same set up.

When I want to upgrade where do I go from here ?
Say for about $200 - $250 what would be noticably an improved upon experience in vaping ?
What is the difference between what I am currently using and A "drip" type product ?
Since the dual coil unit for my protank 3 are about $10 for a 5 pack is it worth trying to re-build them to save a few bucks ?
Is this even possible ?

Thank you everyone, sorry if these are stupid basic questions butI don't know where else to go to get good advice on my new hobby.

Hi BK, and welcome to ECF. You've found a good "home" here :)

Only question that's "stupid" is the one you don't ask!

Have yet to hear of a successful rebuild of any of the dual bottom coils, like the PT3. But you could go to a single bottom coil like the PT2 and rebuild those.

The VV3 is a solid unit that provides a good vape, and has most of the features of the bigger mods. Other than it's small ampacity and that it's not a replaceable battery, it's performance is hard to beat unless you're interested in "sub-ohm" vaping.

And also hard to guess what would be noticeably improved...

You can put a dripper on it if you wish, it's going to work fine with any coil between about 1.8 - 2.8 ohms. With a dripper you need to wind your own coils. Not hard, but some safety concerns to prevent shorts. So you'd need to use the VV3 to check the ohms BEFORE hitting the fire button!

Going to a tube or box mod with replaceable batteries, especially if you go to something that uses an 18650, will give you much longer vape time before swapping out the battery, and you don't need to wait for it to charge. (Of course, you should have at least two of anything, anyway. Stuff happens... backups are vital!) You could start with something like an Innokin SVD, a Vamo or a ZMax. The mod, a charger and a couple of batteries can be had for less than $100. Or go top of the line with a Provari :)

Most "improvements" come on the topper. And since you like the PT3 so much, what would be "better" is really a matter of your tastes. If you want to delve into it, there are rebuildable atomizers that are not drippers, so you can try out different coil and wick combos, and still have a tank to hold liquid. Drippers, otoh, you drip in a few drops, vape, drip in some more and vape. Not everyone's preferred method of vaping, but can be great for trying different flavors, as they're easy to clean.

The main thing is your juice delivery device. If it's crap on the vv, it'll likely be crap on the provari or anything else. If you don't mind a box style mod and the non replaceable battery, the MVP 2 will give you similar performance to the provari (according to others experiences.) if you want high end, the Provari is a great device. I chose the mini because you can use 18350's up to 18650's with extension rings. If you go with the Provari, you won't have as much left in your budget to try other toppers. I won't lie though, I love my Provari.

if you decide on a provari, go through provape.com.

I think you have more size options if you go for the Mini Provari. I don't have one, so perhaps someone who knows better can confirm. You can buy extension caps for both the Mini and the full sized Provari. If you want to stick with VV, then you can't get better then Provari, aside from the DNA 30/20 devices. If you want VW as well, like you iTaste VV v3, then you'll want a DNA 20/30 device. There are other, cheaper devices out there that will do both, but you won't get as smooth as a vape with them I believe. Provari and DNA devices are the only ones capable of that flat line power output. The iTaste VV v3 and the MVP 2 also have that smooth power output, but the MVP 2 may not feel like much of an upgrade from the VV v3. It's still a disposable device at the end of the day, although I really do love mine. Nice to be able to charge my phone with them too.

For toppers, you can get a Protank II and rebuild those single coils, or buy a rebuildable topper like the Russian 91, the Kayfun, or the Kracken. If you don't want to rebuild, I highly suggest carto tanks for improved taste over clearos. They're old school ecig technology, but they're a great, consistant, vape. You won't want to go for the cheap Smok tanks or Boge tanks out there. I've tried Boge, and the cartos slide around far too easily. Go for something like IBTanked.com. Thick, Pyrex glass tanks and fantastic seals that last. Plenty of cutomizable options as well. Also, I've heard great things about Phiniac Tanks and J-Tanks. Cirrus tanks are another to look at. I believe Ultra Mist may still have some for sale prices. They are expensive without a sale.
