20W istick firing slow

Soo this might totally be an noob concern, but given how long i've had the istick (2 months give or take) it's begun to puff incredibly slow and take an unusually long amount of time to get a decent vapor amount. I used it primarily at the LOWEST setting and was completely happy with the amount of vapor produced. This week, however, i keep shooting for 3.8+ volts to get anything at all in under five seconds (and i hit the 10s safety before i get a hit i want). It won't even vaporize at all under 3 seconds anymore and it's been getting on my nerves. I had the same problem with a vision spinner 2 and that prompted the switch to an istick. But i used the vision spinner for months before it started to fade. Only thing out of the ordinary with the istick as far as i can tell is the known connector problem and a bit of blackish residue on the pins, but cleaning the pins doesn't help at all. Sorry for the ramble, my main point is is the battery really THAT bad that it's dying this quickly? Anyone experiencing the same problem?

Hi SuperTaz,

I've been changing them regularly, about every week or two. I just put this one in a few days ago and the hit tastes fine. But i can't hit it at low volts because it takes a good 2 seconds to start vaping (hearing the actual sound i mean), and before i can even feel it the timer runs out. Now 4.3V is delivering the amount of smoke 3V used to give me because of the delay.

I have an aerotank V1, not sure of my ratio as i have a friend who makes liquid for me (he usually prefers higher VG though), and i want to stick away from higher units until there's a little more research on high voltage settings (that study was admittedly horribly employed but got me questioning formaldehyde rates). But what i hadn't noticed was that my istick says 2 ohm resistance. I picked up some attys at a local store and the guy never asked me what resistance i wanted. I'd previously used 1.4's, so here's to me being an idiot haha. that explains the softer hit, but does that explain the delay in vape too?

As Dinger asked, what sort of topper are you running? Clearo, RDA, etc?

Haven't had my istick have this sort of problem, but I remember that my REO would have this kind of problem every now and then. Turned out the 510 pin was really corroded and the threading was really varnished up. I would do a really good cleaning on the istick's pin and clean the threads with some good isopropol alcohol.... worth a shot.

Yeah, with a higher resistance it will take longer for the coil to heat up, and it may not ever get as hot as the other coil (unless you bump up the setting, that is.) 4.3v at 2 ohms gives you about 9.2 watts. That's the same wattage as about 3.6v with a 1.4Ω coil.

THAT would explain the delay! I did notice "blackish residue" and had no idea what it was from, but only barely cleaned it with a paper towel. I'll go out tomorrow and buy some alcohol and see if that fixes the problem.

Sorry I jumped the gun on my last post, that makes a lot more sense. It's probably a combo of corrosion and resistance but I'm definitely going back to 1.4 asap.

Don't use rubbing alcohol!!!!! I hope this catches you in time!
Use Everclear if you want to use alcohol. Or maybe even Vodka. I just blast it with some distilled water, then burn off the gunk! Had worked well so far!
Try using the wattage setting, and try turning it up. You'll be fine!

Really?? I had meant to ask someone this as the cleaning threads don't seem to specify what/where i should use. Will cleaning the pin on the battery damage the unit?
I don't know about using liquor (don't like to waste it :laugh: ), but i'll look into distilled water.

Das Auto was talking about cleaning the coil and wick. You wouldn't want to use rubbing alcohol for that, but using it to clean the iStick's threads and pin is OK.
