Hi folks here is the ZMAX V2 Steampunk Bottom feeder I have been working on.
It has two brass tapwheels one on the top with a short thread for the 18350 configuration) to clamp the battery and make the - connection, and one in the front with a longer thread to allow for the shorter length of an 18650.

Tha temp gauge is again funtional, as it the big brass button that depresses the juice bottle for squonking.
this V2 board will fire a 1.2Ohm coil, and with the volts set at 4.8v that is 19.2watts @4Amps, but with a 1.5Ohm coil at 6v you get 24Watts @4Amps.
The wiring and soilder points have been majorly beefed up to aid in efficency along with the brass body and contacts, far superior to the original SS ZMAX V2 setup.
Again all parts were hand made with a pillar drill grinder, dremell and soldering iron.
Cheers
SV

Hi mate. The tap wheels are from the Uk frOm a model steam supplier. The temp gauge is made from two sections of brass pipe one slid over the other annealed and peened over with a hammer. Gauge dial gave was designed and printed and cut out with a compass cutter, needle is from the second hand of a watch, glass is lexan cut with compass cutter, and guts/bimetallic coil are from a $2 plastic thermometer. time consuming :)

poland, and the brassy lands of google
Now THAT is why my Google minions could not find such a temperature gauge. I thought the dial might have been self printed, but not that you made the whole thing. Very nice work, and not a smidge of solder to be seen anywhere. I will have a look at the model train site, thanks for that.

I am sourcing some 1.2mm silver plate for a future DNA 30 steampunk build, with gold plated brass fittings, might have to splash out and finally buy a mini lathe first though :)

I am converting my zmax v2 as we speak. The mini mill is running. Mine wont be as nice as yours but 2 x 18650a for 7.4v and a anti vandal switch. :)

What mini mill do you have? How does it perform, I'm looking at getting a mini lathe, and the mills keep distracting me :)

It is the cheapest one out there from Harbor Freight. I could not resist for $350. I only do real small stuff with it and would not recommend it. It is not built to last. I have done quite a number of projects on it and feel that it has paid for itself though. Mills are more versatile than lathes. I actually have much more invested in vices and tooling than the mill itself. Be aware of all the stuff you will need besides the mill itself. There are many options.
