28g for mini protank 2 rebuild?

Hi, will 28g kanthal work ok for rebuilding mini protank 2 coils? If so, how many wraps to achieve about 2.5 ohms give or take? Thanks!!

Depends on what you are using for wicking or what size tool you are wrapping your wire around.

I think you'd need 16+ wraps. Way too many to fit. 8 wraps gave me 1.1 ohms.

Try it out. But I can assure you, 28g/2.5ohm in a Protank won't happen. Even if it did fit, it would touch the sides and you'd get a short... Sorry

30g would be advised imo, 28ga gives to low ohms. Or well that depends on what your building it for. Most regulated can't fire below 1.2 ohms. And near 1 ohm the insulator melts. (It did for me atleast.)

I use 30g for my protank coils and 28g for rda/RBAs.

12 wraps of 28ga is about the upper limit of what will fit in a protank II head, and at 1/16", that doesn't get you anywhere near 2.5Ω. You'll need thinner wire.

So 32 is more ideal? What what I read most people are using 32. So the thinner the wire used, the less wraps are required for a higher resistance? I think I had that backwards!! Thanks for the help!!

If you're insistent on 2.5Ω, then 32ga wire will probably be required. If you're flexible for a slightly lower resistance, I find 30ga much easier to work with. A 10 wrap microcoil at 1/16" should put you around 2.0Ω using 30ga.

Use the 32 ga on a 1/16 drill bit, 8 wraps ought to get you where you want to be Ω-wise.

Thanks everyone for the advice. It has helped me a lot. Yeah, 2 ohms would be fine. Kanthal is so cheap I can buy a roll of each and find out which works best for me. Thanks again everyone.
