I have made several 3.7 volt devices and thought a little more power would be nice. So I added a 1.5aa cell in series and it seems to work great. Not finding anyone else using this combo I figure it is probly not a good idea. Please advise.

It's not advised to mix battery types.(voltage is different) You can add batteries in series to increase voltage or you can add batteries in parallel to increase current. Or you can do both if you want to increase voltage & current. But I wouldn't advise mixing battery types... there's a bit too many variables that could cause issues. On this power scale you probably won't have any problems... but if your using li-ion always be careful & use circuit protected batteries.

DO NOT mix battery types! You are asking for an explosion. The weaker battery will drain first, forcing the higher battery to drain more than it should. Overdischarge in lithium-ion batteries is very, very bad. Personally, I would throw away any batteries you've done this with already. With that emergency warning out, keep in mind that I'm not an expert personally, and I'm basing this on what others have said to me.

EDIT: Well, if you're using a li-ion and an alkaline battery, the most likely scenario is that the alkaline battery will overdischarge and leak caustic juice.

As the others have said above - just don't do it.

If you need more voltage, put the batteries in series.

If you need more duration, put the batteries in parallel.

If you need both, put 2 sets of batteries in series, then parallel them (4 batteries total)

And last but not least...don't mix/match your sets. Charge them together, use them together, store them together.
