So after finishing one of my Ruyan disposable e-cigars, I decided to take it apart to see if I could re-use it. It's a fairly simple set up, there is just the atomizer piece which is connected to the battery by 3 wires, so I assume that whatever microchips and air pressure switch there is is inside the piece that the atomizer is a part of.

The first thing I did was I disconnected the wires from the battery:

I then put the atomizer part back into a section of the plastic tubing, and attempted to power the device with a cell hpone battery (a 3.7 volt 780 mAh lithium battery). This didn't work at all.

I then attempted to power it with a 3.7 volt 740mAh lithium camera battery and was somewhat succesful. I say somewhat because the atomizer heated up, but this was without me sucking on the tube. The atomizer continued to heat up so until the power was cut, and also the LED didn't light up at all throughout any of this.

I don't have that much knowledge when it comes to electronics, so does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

Here's a picture of my new "Phoenix" E-Cigar. I know it doesn't look like much, I have some work to do on it to get it to where I want it to be, but it's functioning well and that's what matters the most.

I'm going to build a case/shell for it, although I'm not sure what it's going to look like. Originally I was going to use my first smoking piece. It was a little acrylic "tobacco water-pipe," maybe an inch in diameter and 6 inches tall. That would have been perfect for this, just enough room inside, but not excessively large, and of coarse humorous. Imagine vaping out of that in a restaurant or even better, on a plane.

I need to figure out a way so that the battery can easily be connected and disconnected, yet still secure while in use. I suppose I'll have to carefully measure and create a battery compartment. If I'm just one millimeter off though that could result in the battery not making a connect and having to start all over. Some of that plastic that you can mold (after boiling it) would be really useful for this, but I don't remember what it's called (could someone post the name please), and I only need a little bit anyway. Then I would have the perfect size/dimensions for the battery housing, and I would have the imprints on the positive and negative connections, so I would know exactly where to put the other set of connections and it would line up with the battery's connections perfectly.

Anyway, here is the crude "Phoenix E-Cigar":

It would be awesome if Radio Shack had a battery (with charger) like the one that was originally in the e-cigar so I can just use that as the housing for everything like it was to begin with.

Seems there's no built-in killer in the IC to prevent re-use. Anyway, one could just disconnect the IC!

How about refilling the juice? Have you looked inside the combined juice-holder-atomiser?

I exect you could get that battery type from China, perhaps a rechargeable version.

What is an IC?

The atomizer doesn't hold the juice, there is a seperate cartridge/core for that, it's just not in any of the pictures because I've been dripping with this. And it's definitely re-fillable, I emptied it out and refilled it with my own juice when it was still working, and I got so much more vapor that way.

IC is integrated circuit, it is a small chip soldered on the board.
Looking at the pic of the atomizer there is a slot on it. Does that have metal in it that would be grounded when its in place in the tube?

There are actually two slots on either side. Through one slot you can see a red wire, and on through the other a black, no exposed wiring or metal though. If the tube is plastic, how would that make the circuit grounded though?
I think the moldable plastic you are looking for is called polymorph. If you could find a way for the battery to slip in and out for recharging quickly that would be a great mod.

That's it - you're the man hoodala. I couldn't remember the name.

But yeah, that's the goal, so the battery can slip in and out real easy - like lubricated sex for batteries.

I believe the original battery you show is a 3V (3.2V) item. A standard 3.7V Li-ion should actually overheat the atty. Either the wiring is wrong or the atty is bad.

Excuse me I forget to write the message,
just to give you ideas,
we just do the same with bulk e-cigars and a box for storage batteries 2x 18650
plastic.
