Using the same diameter coil 28ga requires more wraps to get the same ohms...in this case 1.7 than 30ga will. Due to it being thicker and requiring more wraps 28ga will take longer to heat up and get to temperature which is referred to as lag time.
28ga is fine for 1.7 if you aren't having issues with it heating up quick enough but if you do want a more responsive coil 30ga will help. I usually do 28ga for my lower 1ohm builds, 30ga for my upper 1ohm - 2ish ohm builds and 32ga above that.
TEMco would be my choice to get it. You can get 50ft or 100ft rolls from them for what most vendors charge for just a few feet. They sell both
through their website and Ebay.
