30 year smoker, just tried e cigs today

Hello all,

This is my first post. I am a 30 year smoker of Marlboro Reds, varying from 1/2 pack a day (on the good days) to a pack a day, to a pack a night on nights out. I tried my first e cigs today. I bought both an njoy and Blu (that is all that they have in the local convenient store.)

First impressions: the njoy tastes like raisins, the way unburnt cig tobacco smells to me. It is kinda gross, and hard to hit. The Blu is a little better, but still has an off taste. The Blu hits better than the Njoy. I don't particularly like either one, BUT I already know that this will replace the regular cigs.

I plan on traveling to a vaporizer store tomorrow to see what they have. I figure there will be a period of disposables before I buy a kit. There is just so much to learn. Also, I find a lot of the lingo off-putting. I mean if you inhale smoke, you are smoking. If you inhale vapor, why are you vaping and not vaporizing? Also, while I find calling cigs analogs kinda cutsy, I much prefer the term "stinkys"!

Wish me luck! I think finally I won't be a pariah "smoker"

Don't give up the pariah label yet, as a vaper you only get to move up a little. Welcome to the club though, glad to have ya with us. Enjoy the ride and your new found hobby!!

One thing I won't do (at least yet) is call it a hobby. It is a flat out addiction. I am just trying to find a healthier and more socially acceptable way to manage that addiction.

Hey, welcome to ECF. I don't really care for the term analog either. Vaping used to bug me, but I've kind of accepted it.

Don't set your mind to disposables quite yet. Wait till you visit the vape store, maybe do a little looking online first so you can be sure the vape store isn't up charging too much (like look at ego twist and vision spinner online to see what kind of prices they tend to go for). Brick and mortar stores often will charge a bit higher prices because they have overhead, but in my mind that is fine because they are also there to help you. As long as they are not marking things up exorbitantly. You should be able to get a decent starter kit (including two decent batteries, charger, some clearos or cartos, and maybe a bottle of juice) for around um... Maybe $50-80. When you figure a disposable only lasts about 2 hours, going ahead and getting a rechargeable makes more sense. Or you could just get one battery/charger to start with, one topper, and a bottle of juice for maybe around $30.

Hi! and welcome to ECF. My first exposure to an ecig was a blu. Bought it on a whim and did not like it; knew it would not get me off a 2 pad 45 year Marlboro 100s habit. Came here and started reading and asking questions. Check out that vape shop and write down the things that interest you and bring that list here. If you can, try out some of their juices while you are there and see if you find a couple you like. Some B&Ms are wonderful and have very knowledgeable staff, some are just selling ego kits at a huge markup. If yours is the latter you may be better off coming here and getting ideas and links to buy online. Can save you a LOT of money. If you find you have an awesome shop and helpful staff there is nothing like getting the hands on help and immediate replacements when needed, even if it costs more money.

I am happy to hear that you saw the potential in the njoy and blu. So did I. The Vision Spinner that I bought as my first pv was a world above the power and capabilities of that blu. And you can not compare the flavor of the liquids that are available to you when you are able to refill a tank (clearo). Hundreds of them in every flavor you can imagine. You have lots of fun and tinkering in your future.

Welcome again. Hope to see you back here with an update on what your shop has to offer and what you are interested in.

HI!

As an 18yr smoker, almost immediately 1PAD from the start, and for the last 5+ yrs 2PAD and now 3days+ totally quit, let me welcome you to the 'other side'.

Don't worry about the lingo, most of the time I have NO idea what anyone on here is talking about once they get to talking about equipment, all you gotta do is get a vape that works for you, juice you like, and some spare batteries, LOL! Everything else will come in time. You don't have to know what it is or what the words mean to use them!

As a side note, I like simple (and the fact that the whole set-up cost me less than a carton of smokes helped, too) and I use an e-Go-T, and replaced the 'juice holder' that came with it (non-replaceable wick) with one that is replaceable (it says iClear 16 VW/VV on the outside, but other than having 4 strings to wick up the juice instead of two, looks exactly the same), bought some juice I liked, and am happily vaping away, cig-free, for the past three days.

I've never used the disposable ones, but I hear they're sub-par.

BEST of luck to you!

A.

There's always that part too. There are so many ways to manage your addiction with vaping. I now have a new addiction, vapor hardware and new flavored juices. I'm having a blast with it too.
Maybe just getting off the sinkies and being more socially acceptable will be enough for you with one setup and I say good for you!

Congrats too.

That's exactly how I see it - and I'm fine with a nicotine addiction, just like I'm fine with my caffeine addiction (having a brother that owns a coffee company helps there!). I enjoy the effects of nicotine, but hate the effects of the cigarette delivery system, which causes all of the problems.

Welcome, grab a seat, get your first kit up and running, find some flavors you like, and enjoy! Take your time, ask questions, pay attention to guys like Baditude who know this stuff inside and out, and you'll be okay. This place will help you avoid a lot of mistakes people commonly make getting started!

And, stop buying Blu, they're horribly overpriced and taste like garbage compared to what you'll be experiencing soon! They're a waste of money!

Hello and welcome to ecf. This whole switch from analogs to ecigs can be overwhelming at first and as long as you can manage the learning curve you'll be ok. Find a good starter kit and use this forum to your advantage, theres more support here than you can imagine. If you find things confusing or hard to grasp, just ask questions. You're on the right track, best of luck to you.:toast:

They're still smokes or cigarettes/cigars/pipes to me and not analogs. Were I vaporizing I would have disappeared before I got this post typed. I'm vaping with a vaporizer... thanks goodness it only vaporizes the liquid in it and not me.;) New things create new languages.. new words with which two or more can communicate.... stop on red, go on green.

Congratulations, Lucky_Pierre, for your decision to quit smoking! I too started trying to quit with Blu's and Njoys but they just didn't get it. V2's are much better, but for me, still not enough to make me stop wanting a real cigarette. When I tried an eGo, though, that was IT! A world better and I knew immediately I could quit with that little eGo. I still use them happily, but have added some variable voltage and variable watts devices, and several of the larger eGo batteries. I'd recommend you try an eGo type, at the very least. Good luck to you and keep us informed of your experience!

Well according to your analogy, why are you smoking and not smokerizing? Vaporizing is what happens inside my atomizer that is powered by my vaporizer.

Personally don't care for the term stinkys, prefer smokes, cigs, butts, or coffin nails. But everyone has their preference.

Welcome and good luck on the road to vapedom. Lots to choose from and decisions to make. As long as they get you off the burning of tobacco, that's all that matters. Search, review, compare, select and purchase, then the search begins for juice that works for you.

Welcome to ECF, LP, and congratulations on taking the first steps.

My wife and I both started on the Blu, and while it wasn't all that great, it wasn't a terrible introduction to vaping. We both knew that we would upgrade to something better, but at the very least, it demonstrated that we would make vaping work for us to quit smoking.

I will also offer my vote for the eGo's. We both have store re-branded CE5's, and we opted for the EVOD/MT3 clearomizers at the suggestion of the store clerk where I got ours. Turned out to be the perfect match.

I gotta admit that it warms my heart every time I read stories about folks making the transition from regular smokes to vapes. You WILL feel a difference soon, and by this I mean that you will start feeling so much better than you could possibly imagine. Cheers! :toast:

Welcome to the forum. Good luck on quiting cigs. Vaping has been 100% effective for me. Already I have regained my sense of taste and smell. I no longer wake up with that nagging cough in the morning.

I bought an eGo starter kit from a local Tobacco shop for 50 bucks. However in the month that I owned it, I have since completely upgraded my hardware. So while it was not a "waste" of money, It is not what I would recommend to new vapers because there is much better hardware available.

For new vapers I suggest getting an Itaste vv 3 battery. They are fantastic. They have an OK battery life for light to moderate users, and they charge via micro USB so you can actually continue to use the product while it's charging.

It works great out of the box, but it is a variable voltage/wattage battery which means you can adjust the output to give you flavor that you prefer. And once you do some research, and you start wondering about the whole "wattage" "voltage" "resistance" stuff people talk about here, you will already have the hardware to experiment with.

If you get an Itaste vv 3 starter kit, you will get 5 Iclear clearomizers too. This is really all you will need other some e-juice. I have no experience with these clearomizers, so I can't comment on them. However many people love the clearomizers.

I have two Itaste vv3 batteries and three Kanger Mini Protank II's in my rotation. I love this setup.

I have two batteries so that one is always charged. The Mini Protank 2's are easy to clean, you can change out the atomizer heads on them easily and inexpensively and they provide great flavor and vapor production.

If you have an issue with glass tanks and expense of the Mini Protank, then the eVod is a fantastic, low cost "plastic" clearomizer as well. It uses the same technology and heads as the Mini Protank, but is made with plastic instead of glass. This makes them rugged, well performing and inexpensive to maintain.

Hello Everyone

I am very new to vaping and I do not know a single thing about vaping except it is a good alternative to quit smoking. I want to quit smoking but do not actually know where to start from. I was wondering if anyone can guide me about electronic cigarettes and vaping, like where can I get it from and which is the best and cheapest starting kit available into the market?

Thank You in advance :)

I don't know if you bought a blu kit or are just smoking the disposables, but you can get a better starter kit for about the same price as a blu kit. The place I bought my "starter kit" had the one I bought for $37, plus I got a free 15 ml, 6ml and 3ml bottle of juice. I didn't like the taste of the blu e-cigs, and the throat hit was really weak to me. I also had a metro kit. I actually liked the taste of the metro better (it didn't really have one) but half the filters that I would by would be defective. On both of those I'd have to seal the crack where the battery met the filter with my fingers to get anything resembling a throat hit.

I'm sure there will be some good deals to be had on "black Friday" maybe you should keep your options open until after all the sales have been posted. If you scroll down...down... and then down a bit more there is a black Friday section where people can post sales.

Good luck.
